“How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.”
“He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge”
“As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings, So the Lord alone led him, And there was no foreign god with him”
Our anchor passages above suggests to us that God has wings, although we use the wings of the eagle to symbolise God’s wings, the truth of the matter is that the eagles’ wings is nowhere comparable to the wings of the Almighty God. It cannot be compared in anyway because the wings of the Almighty God is far superior.
As God’s children we are privileged to ride on His wings and that holds a lot of benefits for us. In today’s devotional and the next twelve devotionals, we shall be looking at some these benefits of riding on the wings of the Almighty God in detail.
The first of the benefits is that riding on God’s wings, we are protected and preserved. Governments, corporate organizations and individuals all over the world in other to protect themselves and their subjects spend so much on security every year, yet the world is still confronted with the problem of insecurity. Today, problems associated with insecurity have assumed a frightening dimension even in our country and the best that governments all over the world are trying to do now is to contain them and keep them within control. It is particularly worse in our country where it is becoming increasingly difficult to apprehend and to prosecute individuals and groups responsible for the major insecurity issues confronting us presently – the boko haram have kidnapped, maimed and killed many, riffle carrying herdsmen have sacked a lot of villages in Northern Nigeria, burnt churches, separated families, yet till date no herdsmen or boko haram has been arrested or talk less of subjecting them to trial, kidnapping business all of a sudden has become big business today in the country simple because kidnappers seem to be getting away with their unscrupulous activities, arrest has been very few and far between.
As children of God however, none of these should be a problem to us because God and not man or any government is responsible for our security. And so on in the midst of the dangers, the wickedness and the insecurity issues around us today, we have the assurance that out God is able to protect and preserve us and He will do so. According to our passages, some of the numerous ways by which He protects us is that He provides shelter for us in the shadow of His wings. Shelter there is not just a house where we live, it is what we can call today a bunker that is, a fortified chamber or protective embankment that is, bullet proof, bomb proof keeping those within it safe from external aggression (Psa. 61: 4). Also, His wings provides covering for all His children in all their journeys, their daily activities. Such covering ensures that they are protected from strange diseases, epidemic or pandemic and arrows of wickedness.
According to Deut. 32: 11, God also protects us by guiding our steps and protecting us from every wrong or dangerous path. He does this by carrying us on His wings, thereby protecting us from every snare, traps or evil net laid for us along the way. God arrangement to protect and preserve us His comprehensive and leaves nothing out, only deviation into sin either through idolatry or some other means will take us outside His covering of protection.
Take heed to yourselves therefore and ensure that you do not compromise by yourself God’s arrangement of protection over your life. Stay away from idolatry, stay away all appearance of evil and no matter the insecurity challenge out there, you are covered. Shalom.

1. Father, thank you for the privilege I have to ride on your wings and the several benefits such privilege hold for my life.
2. Oh Lord, preserve my family and I from every assault of the enemy.
3. Let every power seeking to terminate my life be destroyed by fire.
4. Oh Lord, scatter every conspiracy over my life to destroy me.
5. Oh Lord, please keep my family and I under your protection all the days of our lives.
