We are a generation that does not like to wait, we like everything to be in the now, we do not like to hear the word “later”. We want that breakthrough now, that deliverance now, that promotion now. We get easily apprehensive and agitated when we wait. Yet wait we must if we intend to walk with God, because he that believes in God does not make haste.
Whosoever desire to reap good things that will be delightful, abundant and lasting will need to learn to wait because the good things of this life, if they are genuine are not like “fast food”, it requires time. Learning to wait becomes much more important if you are desirous of receiving anything from God because God will not be stampeded into doing anything. All those who desire the beauty, the blessings that come from Him will have to learn to wait for His time.
What then does it mean to wait on the Lord? To wait on the Lord is to look unto Him the way . To wait on the Lord is to trust wholeheartedly in Him and to hold unto Him without any option of alternative, the way Jacob held unto the angel refusing to let go of him until he is blessed. To wait on the Lord however requires faith and a good dose of patience, these are two qualities that we find in the lives of our fathers of faith which enabled them to receive the gift of the Lord.
Waiting however has promise of great reward for those who develop and exercise the virtue. Our anchor passage informs us of some of these reward. It says that those who wait upon the Lord will
Renew their strength – That is, they shall always be supplied with fresh oil, hence they are refreshed. If at any time they have been weakened, either by reason of hard labour or for whatever reason, they shall recover from such weakness and receive new strength.
Mount up with wings as eagles – That is, they will soar upward and upward in life they will not come down and like the eagle their flight will be swift.
In all their doings they will be tireless
These no doubt will be the desire of all and the key to receiving them all and much more is to develop, cultivate and practice the habit of waiting on the Lord. Whatever is the situation you may be going through in life, it pays to wait on God for your turn around. Refuse pressure from family, friends and neighbours to look elsewhere, like the Psalmist, He will not disappoint you. Shalom
Prayer Points
1. Father, in my walk with please teach me to wait on you and never to move ahead of you in Jesus name.
2. Father, please teach me to put my trust in you whole heartedly in Jesus name
3. Father, please decorate my life with the beauty and the blessings that come out of waiting for you in Jesus name.
4. Father, I receive grace to develop and to maintain the lifestyle of faith and patience in Jesus name.
5. Father, as I wait on you may my strength be renewed daily, may I mount up higher and higher in life never to come down in Jesus name.
