Greetings to you all, i still remain danbrilliant. Hope my previous articles met you well?

On this article, we'll discuss on upliftment from pain & sorrow, and I hope you learn.

Let's go!

Text: Luke 7: 13-15

“When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.”

Dwelling in pain and sorrow

We do not like to hear it but it is true that pain and sorrow are a part of life. It is very unlikely that you will find anyone living or dead who never experienced pain and sorrow at one time or the other. As long as death is a part of life then pain and sorrow is a part of life, as long as we are in this world where bad things happen on a daily basis and it happens to everybody both good and bad, then pain and sorrow will continue to exist.

Jesus while He was on earth in the flesh had His own fair share of pain and sorrow. Though He is the son of God, he is a member of the Godhead yet we are told that he suffered (Heb. 5: 8). Ultimately, He suffered the pain and agony of the cross. The pain and agony that Jesus passed through was so much that, He was described as a man of sorrow, a man acquainted with grief (Isa. 53: 3).

Talking about the pain and sorrow that we go through as human beings in the world, the apostle Paul in Rom. 8: 22, says “For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now” and this pain is not limited to unbelievers alone it includes even we believers as well. The good news however is that as the redeemed of the Lord, deliverance or freedom from pain and sorrow is part of our salvation package. When we give our life to Christ, sorrow and pain need not continue in our lives anymore, God lifts us up above them and instead fills us with joy and gladness.

The pain and sorrow that Jesus suffered while He was with us here in the flesh was for two reasons:

1. So that He can have a taste of what we are going through, so that He can feel what we feel, the bible says that He is touched with the feeling of our infirmity (Heb. 4: 15). So that He will know how best to comfort us and to empathize with us.

2. So that we will not have to suffer pain and sorrow again. That we will not suffer pain and sorrow again does not mean that things that cause pain and sorrow will not happen to us, but it does mean that when this things happen, they will not produce in us the sorrow and the pain they used to produce in the past. For example, tribulation, trials are events that cause pain and sorrow, but for us as children of God, the bible tells us that our attitude to tribulation, trials should be joy and not sorrow or sadness – “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials” (James 1: 2)

Our anchor text narrates to us the testimony of a widow who already has lost her husband and as if that was not bad enough, the devil reached out and snatched her only son, thus making her to become lonely in this world, perhaps that son is the one taking care of her, providing for her and now the cruel hands of death has taken him away from her, definitely she will be in serious emotional pain and sorrow, the type that can shorten her lifespan, because at that point she may lose the will to continue to live, no amount of words of comfort from sympathizers will remove that kind of pain. But as they were carrying the corpse of the young man to the place where he will be buried, Jesus met them on the way, intervened and brought the dead boy back to life. Immediately sorrow turned to joy and the burial procession turned to a procession to celebrate life.

Acts 10: 38, says that Jesus Christ is anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power and He “…….went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him”. Most of the good He did then was to terminate sorrow and pain in the life of people and release upon them instead the oil of gladness.

Jesus Christ is still in the business of turning our mourning into dancing; and putting off our sackcloth and clothing us instead with gladness (Psa. 30: 11). He is the only one that can do that and this package is already included in our salvation pack. It is part of our privilege as Children of God. All you need to do is to call upon Him to access it. The bible told us that Jabez prayed among other things that God will not allow him to see pain and God heard him, if God heard Jabez, He will hear you. Shalom.

Prayer Points

Pray

1. Thank God for His promise to set you free from pain and sorrow.

2. Ask Him to visit you in His power and put an end to pain and sorrow in your life and family.

3. Ask God to silence every opposition standing against your healing.

4. Ask God to bring a complete end to every long standing affliction in your life and family.

5. Ask God to keep you and your family far from oppression (Isa 54:14).
