Fear is a liar, move on!

Fear can be described as a surge of emotion that promotes panic, anxiety and unrest. Oftentimes it is the product of an hyperactive or overzealous imagination. That perhaps is the reason why fear as often been described as false evidence appearing real – your mind grabs hold of an information which may or may not even be true and then your imagination takes that information and blows the negative implication of that information out of proportion.

Beyond this however the bible tells us in 2Tim. 1: 7, that fear is a spirit – a spirit that is not from God and if it is not from God, then there is only one other place from which it can come from and that is from the devil and whatever comes from the devil cannot be good, it can only be evil. So fear is an evil spirit from the devil. This makes the issue of fear to be much more serious than many of us may have taken it.

When you understand that fear is an evil spirit, then you certainly should not want to have anything to do with it, because like any evil spirit, when fear grabs hold of an individual, the intention is to destroy whatever the person may have gathered over the years and eventually destroys the person if it is not checked. Fear is destructive, fear kills courage and confidence, fear if left unchecked will kill faith.

Fear also is a thief and it does not steal cheap things. If you give it room in your life, it will steal your joy, it will steal your peace. Anytime the devil decides to visit an individual, it is the spirit of fear that serves as his advance party. Fear will go ahead of the devil to create access in the persons life through which the devil can come in to wreck major havoc. So if fear does not gain a foothold in your life then the devil will be unable to have access to your life.

This is clearly demonstrated in our text, Peter was doing fine walking on the sea towards Jesus until he gave room to fear and immediately he began to sink. Whatever situation that confronts you, God’s intention is for you to walk over it, but that is only if you do not give room to fear. There are many today who have drowned in the ocean of problem that came against them, not because Jesus was not there for them, but because they gave room to fear.

Learn to face your fears

So how do we overcome fear? The answer is very simple, never lose sight of Jesus, never allow whatever you are going through to take your attention away from Jesus. Peter lost sight of Jesus, he lost sight of the presence of Jesus when he started looking at the winds and waves and how strong they were. Many today rather than focus on Jesus are looking at the wind and the wave of the troubles or problems they are going through, the more they look at it the more they are intimidated by its size, its power and its influence and immediately fear sets in.

Stop looking at the waves or the wind that the challenges of your life is generating, instead keep your eye on Jesus. The recognition of Christ' presence with you is the antidote for fear – in times of fear and uncertainty as we are experiencing in the world today it is calming and reassuring to know that Christ is always with us – Matt. 28: 20. And because He is with us we can be rest assured that no matter how strong the wave may be, we will never sink in the sea of the problems confronting us now or the one that may come up against us later, instead we will triumph over them.

Keep looking at Jesus, refuse to give fear even an inch of space in your life and I can assure you, that problem will turn for you for a testimony

You can pray the following so as to stop the spirit of fear.

1. Ask for forgiveness for the various times you have allowed the spirit of fear in your life.

2. Renounce and reject the spirit of fear, dissociate yourself totally from its grip and break its control over your life.

3. Father, every door that fear has opened in my life, I command the door to close permanently now in Jesus name

4. Father, save me from every problem that fear has created in my life in Jesus name. I will not sink anymore in Jesus name.

5. I decree in the name of Jesus that the challenges of my life today will turn to me for a testimony even before the end of this year in Jesus name. Amen.

6. Present your personal request to the Lord and believe Him that He has heard you.
