A group of researchers Technology of the Knowledge Media Institute of the Open University of the UK developed a prototype application for smartphones that facilitates verification of test results of coronavirus and vaccination certificates . The system uses blockchain technology to certify the reliability of the tests and certificates presented.

The new application aims to help doctors and pharmacists to carry out tests and issue digital certificates through the blockchain network , preventing counterfeits or fraud. The project is intended for "front-line" medical personnel (those who have direct contact with those infected) and for anyone who must demonstrate their " immunity " to the disease; that is, to verify the possession of the necessary antibodies .

All the data extracted from the application can be used to verify the physical condition and health of the workers , when exposing them to a certain environmental environment or authorizing a trip.

Like many researchers, the OU blockchain team has been highly motivated to help solve this global pandemic. We have been looking at how our existing technology could be reused to aid immunity certification, "said KMN Director John Domingue .

Before requesting an assessment, individuals will be required to present proof of identity, which will then be uploaded to the blockchain network . Once the identity of the owner is found, the doctors or pharmacists may issue the "certificate of immunity" directly to the app . Then, every time the certificate holder wants to check its status, they only have to show it.

"Our application, based on several years of research on decentralized certification, is easily scalable , generically applicable and waiting for immunity tests to take effect," added Domingue .

That's an application of blockchain technology in medicine. It is a giant stride in technology.
