Telegram Open Network (TON): Official launch and free token
After a long silence about the Telegram project of a blockchain and a token, there was news about the Telegram Open Network (TON) and its native token called GRAM last week. However, the news itself was less encouraging, as Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced that the start of TON was delayed by another year and initially had to do without GRAM.
At the same time, the so-called Free TON Community is working on its own solution. You can find out who is behind this community and what the solution looks like in the article.
Free Telegram Open Network with its own token
The Free TON Community is initially an independent group of software developers, validators and users. They announced the launch of their own “Free TON Blockchain” on Friday, May 7th.
If you would like to receive detailed information on the launch process, you can look at the live stream stored as the source in addition to the article. Let's briefly summarize the facts:
The source code of the actual Telegram Open Network serves as the basis for the Free TON blockchain. As is known, this is the desired blockchain from Telegram.
The community also announced that it would distribute a free “TON” token among users. It forms a strong counterweight to the planned GRAM token that Telegram sold to investors after a canceled public sale as part of a private sale. The Telegram founders collected enormous amounts of money.
What initially sounded lucrative now turns out to be a disadvantage for Pavel Durov and Co., since this sale also took place to US investors, among others. The American SEC then started a lawsuit because Telegram failed to meet the official requirements for the "sale of securities".
TON without the founder Pavel Durov?
Such a launch by the community is of course also a clear statement. Because for the launch of a really decentralized blockchain, people are of course also needed who maintain the network and validate transactions. At the same time, the community also said that Telegram itself should no longer be involved in the process and maintenance of the blockchain.
Existing lawsuits in the US mean that Telegram, the original founders of TON, can no longer be involved. We hope that Free TON will represent the values of a free market, the protection of personal data, decentralized governance and censorship resistance.
No US citizens can become part of the community at this time. In the context of "real decentralization", however, this should also be possible in the future.
We can therefore state that the Telegram Open Network has now been launched in a "somewhat different" way. We see that Pavel Durov and the entire team behind Telegram obviously underestimated the legal hurdles. As a result, the community decided to do it themselves.
It will be exciting for the future to observe how decentralized such a network will actually be and how much acceptance and thus also application it will find.
Are you still interested in TON and what chances are you giving the project?
