Blockchain-based COVID-19 financial aid campaign launched
BitGive , the first Bitcoin 501 non-profit organization, announced a partnership with Direct Relief, GiveDirectly and One Fair Wage Emergency Fund to take advantage of blockchain technology and provide financial aid to those affected by the coronavirus .
The BitGive COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund has a fundraising goal of USD 20,000 dedicated to
provide personal protective equipment for medical professionals, monetary relief to those who have lost their jobs, and global financing for those in need.
Through BitGive's donation tracking platform GiveTrack, donors will have full transparency of their donations and choose to contribute in fiat or cryptocurrency. The platform tracks how funds are spent and provides donors with direct, evidence-based reporting. Campaign milestones are constantly shared on the public GiveTrack platform, including details on the implementation fund and its impact.
Connie Gallippi , Founder and CEO of BitGive, said:
COVID-19 has affected our global community and has brought us all together and support each other to overcome this. We thank our nonprofit partners for helping us provide a fully transparent pathway for collective impact, directly helping those in need on the front lines. "
Direct Relief is a non-profit organization that helps and empowers communities recovering from disasters, with the aim of improving the quality of life for those who are experiencing difficulties. Working directly with public health authorities, non-profit organizations, and companies in the United States, the Caribbean, and South America, Direct Relief provides personal protective equipment and essential medical supplies to health professionals who respond to the coronavirus.
With rising unemployment rates, specifically affecting restaurants, concerts, and other hourly workers, One Fair Wage Emergency Fund provides monetary assistance to those who have lost their job in the United States as a result of the coronavirus crisis. One Fair Wage assists restaurant workers, service car drivers, delivery workers, and personal service workers, among others affected.
The third beneficiary of the BitGive COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund is GiveDirectly , a global NGO that performs digital cash transfers. With a proven track record of providing financial services aid to those living in the most marginalized and vulnerable communities in eight countries, GiveDirectly has established aid funds for Americans and Africans financially affected by COVID-19.
Already gaining ground with a contribution from IOV Labs, whose RSK smart contract platform powers the GiveTrack donation system, campaign funds will be evenly distributed among the three beneficiaries.
Diego Gutiérrez Zaldivar, CEO of IOV Labs, commented:
BitGive harnesses the power of blockchain to connect donors with shocking causes and move funds globally with maximum transparency, security and efficiency. We are honored to contribute to your COVID-19 Relief Fund and support the efforts of these wonderful organizations.
