One of the first Video gaming projects to launch on Icon is Project Nebula, what is it about? Below is a summary of what the team have said about the different mechanics of the game.
"Project Nebula is a space themed, collectable strategy game on the ICON blockchain. Discover and own unique planets, artifacts, and more in an ever-expanding universe! Planets in Project Nebula are non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that players can claim, trade, and sell through the in-game Marketplace. The game includes elements from the 4X gaming genre, such as open exploration, research, and resource management.
Exploration
Project Nebula’s universe is hex-based. Every player will have a limited amount of hexes that they will be able to explore each day (24h). There will be several ways for players to increase their exploration capacity in the game, either by researching new technologies or by collecting special resources that increase their exploration speed.
Players will only know exact information about the hexes they have already explored, although scanning nearby hexes before venturing into them will also be possible with limited accuracy. The accuracy of scanning distant hexes can be increased by researching respective technologies or by constructing observatories.
Colonizing planets
There are several ways for players to acquire new planets in Project Nebula. Apart from purchasing planets from other players via our in-game NFT Marketplace, everybody can explore the galaxy and colonize planets that they find. Some of the planets will require players to spend some ICX in order to be colonized. Some of the planets will require only in-game resources, and for some planets, there will be no colonization fee. Colonizing planets will take time, and if two players are trying to colonize the same planet simultaneously, the fastest one will win the planet.
Research
One of the three main resources in Project Nebula are research points. Learning a new technology requires research points. The more points you have, the faster you will be able to unlock new technologies. Your research points total represents the progress you will be able to make in one day.
There will be many research categories where you can improve your performance. Some categories are more focused on boosting your exploration skills, some are more related to the process of upgrading your planets, and so on.
Most of the technologies will have levels 1–5 with each following level increasing the benefit you get from that technology.
Upgrades to planets
Most planets will have upgrade slots; they represent the capacity of improvements available for that specific planet. How many and what type of upgrade slots a planet has will depend on its rarity class and planet type.
Every building will have Credit and/or Industry costs that you must spend in order to begin construction. Buildings can have other prerequisites as well, such as access to a specific type of special resource or a specific technology that may have to be researched. As with technologies, buildings will have various effects on the gameplay. For example, they can increase credit generation or the range of your scanners to give you a better overview of what’s around you."
