Hello, today I'm going to talk less about cryptocurrencies because of what's happening in Myanmar, everyone should know and spread the word.
The military like in many dictatorships have assumed control of Myanmar and are shutting down citizens who are against the military dictatorship. This happened after a woman, Peace Nobel prize winner, won the elections by over 75% of the votes. Military already killed more than 250 people and have more than 2500 political prisioners who were manifastating agains them.
What's the technology part of this article?
Myanmar's army is trying to shut down the internet in the country, they are forcing operators to block their services. People still had one shot against this, ProtonMail and ProtonVPN, many were using it as means to know what's happening in their country and to fight the opressive government.
Sometime in the last days a big company entered the scheme, Apple, what they decided to do? Well, they blocked Proton services in Myanmar claiming that they where a tool to go against the government and doing illegal stuff in Myanmar. Apple claimed to be acting as the law. Let us go back in time and see that Apple over the years has paid fines from the European Union for not following the laws of EU, privacy and market share laws. They prefer to pay the fine because compared to the profit the fines are nothing. Apple always claimed to be in favour of human rights. So, what are you doing Apple?
This is the most disgusting thing I have seen a technology company do, they are helping a dictatorship, going against human rights and help with opression of people. My conclusion on this is that Apple is only in favour of human rights when that means filling their pockets, they were afraid of losing Myanmar market by prohibition, so they closed relations with Proton. This has to be known. I never used Apple software but I know what can be done in there, has you probably guessed I am a freedom supporter, so I try to only use open source operating systems. An OS closed in chains always sounded bad to me and I never supported Apple because of it and know the evidences can not be unseen, Apple only cares about profit, nothing more, not even human rights.
Cryptocurrencies can be a way to help the citizens of Myanmar fight this opressive government (Monero), anonimity tools (Signal, Telegram, NordVPN) can be a way for them to talk to the outside world and to see what's happening, this is the only way to fight.
Please, if you are reading this share what's happening and who are the bad guys in front and behind the scenes, and Apple won't ever see a pennie from me, now more than ever, this is outrageous.
