Reign of the Tech (AI Takeover)

This AI stuff is getting crazy!

Artificial intelligence, or AI, is a wildly burgeoning industry. This technology is changing lives with breakthroughs that have completely reshaped our lives and workplaces. AI has superpowers we couldn’t even imagine just a few years ago. 

This ability to sift through extensive libraries of information at the pace of lighting sets it apart from us mere humans. AI bases its decision on this data analysis. 

This technology has been around for a while for consumers in the form of our digital assistants like Siri. But, companies like OpenAI, who have created the viral, new AI bot known as “ChatGPT,” are going all in on AI. This bot has already amassed a whopping 1 million users in its first 5 days alone! 

AI, now, is flourishing in many retail sectors as well as finance and healthcare, to name a few. This brings us to the age-old question, “Are we going to be replaced by robots?”

But there is also the human touch, which can never be replaced by AI. And someone will need to service and maintain the bots. The most likely outcome is that while some menial jobs like factory work will be replaced, there will also be a creation of a new class of  bot-oriented jobs.

As scary as the robot takeover sounds, we can’t be luddites and resist the rise of the tech. We have to adapt to our changing situation. This is the only way we can thrive in this new normal in various industries and in our daily lives.

AI Industries

As we are witnessing in real time, bots are slowly taking hold in many industries, such as self-driving cars. These cars utilize AI to access GPS and get you around the neighborhood and beyond. Tesla is the best known car with self-driving capabilities and many more are coming onboard next year. These autonomous vehicles aren’t 100% foolproof as evidenced by a couple incidents with car crashes in the Tesla models. 

They are getting better every year. It’s just a matter of time before they become fully mainstream and every automaker releases their first fully autonomous car. This will essentially make having a driver's license obsolete, although maybe we’ll get an operator's license as a replacement, or consolation prize.

Let’s take a look at healthcare and AI. It can be used to do analysis on patients' medical images. Images like x-rays, for instance. They can even when MRIs and five doctors insight into a patient’s current condition. 

In finance, AI has been using algorithms to base investment decisions on. This can give savvy investors an edge in the market. And if you know about the stock and option trading markets, it’s all about the edge. AI can also be used to cut down on fraudulent activities as well. 

Another area that bots are improving everyday is customer service. For instance, chatbots are making way for customer service reps to become obsolete. These bots are quite great at handling tasks such as answering customer service questions as well as giving meaningful and actionable support. 

As you can see, AI has many talents at its disposal

But, I wouldn’t worry quite yet because we are not quite there yet. However, if you are a customer service rep, it wouldn’t help to maybe add new skills to your repertoire or even consider going back to school to up your skill game and maybe get certification.

Basically, AI is taking over the world, haha

But, let’s keep things in perspective. AI still hasn’t been fully perfected yet. Still many kinks to work out so the human maintenance aspect will always be needed. It is still in its infancy. But, this is just a heads up to those who have been ignoring the improvements. It may help to start getting comfortable with the concept of AI. This way you will be ahead of the curve and your skills will always be in demand. Because you know, you're familiar with this new tech. 

Final thoughts

This incredible impact that AI has been having on many industries will always be getting larger and affecting new industries daily. The game is changing, but it's not game over for us humans. In fact, I would say that humans are more essential than ever to keep the bots in check and working smoothly. 

Or, we could be seeing Asimov’s prophecies come true. Let’s hope our new robot overlords are nicer than the ones in that “I, Robot” movie starring Will Smith. If so, I guess Will could just give them a firm smack and keep 'em in check haha, jk. 

In all seriousness, these advancements will most likely make our lives a lot easier so we can focus on the most important things in life, like spending time with family and doing work that can never truly be replicated by bots.

So, let's keep focused and appreciate this life-changing technology because it is such a marvel to behold. We could have never even imagined how fast this tech could grow within the past ten years. But, here it is today and the future has never looked brighter.
