Cyber criminals have developed a new way to mining cryptocurrency from victims without their knowledge, according to a new report issued by "Cyber Security" Trend Micro.

Crypto thieves now use what is known as a "malicious dropper" to hide malicious software on users ’computers, victims of extracting the cryptocurrency without the users’ knowledge.

It is a method that has emerged in many Asian and South American countries, including Brazil, India, Bangladesh and Kuwait, according to the same report.

The effectiveness of new malware is partly related to the fact that the hidden code with the dropper is not harmful in itself, making it difficult to detect antivirus tools and programs.

Instead, the researchers at the company "Trend Micro" said that this program requests a series of orders to be able to extract cryptocurrencies.

Through a process known as "hollowing out" in which the code is in an inactive state on the victim's computer, it remains undetected.

From the victim's machine, attackers can issue orders at will, including causing code to mining the monroe coin, a coin widely known for its unknown properties and sending it to a wallet they control.

The report explains the malware’s work by:

Because the formatted file consists only of a structural code without any automatic behavior, the malicious file can remain undetected in the system and may even avoid manual detection when it is complete

Attackers can choose to activate malware at certain times.

This amounts to another method similar to the ransomware virus.

According to the company "Trend Micro" and what was stated in its report, mining mining-related malware in 2019 witnessed a higher percentage of other malware, and the reason could be the rise in prices of many digital assets, especially bitcoin, over the past 12 months.

But despite the emergence of new methods of encryption, the number of cases in which illegal encryption mining operations have been discovered has decreased significantly, according to the company.

"Trend Micro" data contrasts with a new report this year from "Check Point" cyber security, which suggests that crypto mining attacks are declining.

"Check Point" research showed that the number of mining attacks during the first half of 2019 decreased from 42% to about 26%, compared to the same time period in 2018.
