I spent 2 full days hunting down scholarships like it was my full-time job. On the first day, I perused. But on the second day, I took action and applied. Then the wait began…
Within 3 days, a scholar manager got back to me and asked me if I was still interested in joining. I will never forget that day. I was in shock. I could have sworn this was all some cruel dream I would inevitably wake up from. What was even crazier was this scholarship was my dream scholarship. Never in a million years did I expect them to actually reach out to me. Of all the people they chose to take a risk on, they chose me.
To this day, I am shocked and beyond grateful for their generosity and kindness. They have taken me under their wing and helped me learn this amazing game.
I was so excited when I was officially onboarded with Hiraya Infinity and given a team to play with that I tweeted about.
How To Get A Scholarship Fast…
Before you can begin applying, you need to be prepared and educated enough to take on the responsibility of a scholarship. There is a lot more involved in getting a “scholarship quickly” than one might realize. First, we must lay the foundation that we can build upon.
Update your Twitter account:
Add a profile picture (for me, this was an NFT I purchased from Mad Banana Union)
Change your Twitter name to remove any weird strings of numbers if you haven’t already. You can use your name or come up with something creative and memorable to be your new username.
Make sure your Twitter name matches your Discord name. If it isn’t already, feel free to change it so you can be identified more easily between Discord and Twitter.
Add an interesting bio that talks about your interests (Here’s my bio as an example: “Crypto and NFT Obsessed | Come with me while I explore the wonderful world of DeFi”)
Actually, start tweeting
Retweet tweets from the Axie Infinity community
Interact on Twitter by commenting and liking other people’s posts
From there, you should start gaining followers organically
All of these things combined will make your account appear active, trustworthy, and legit.
Start gaining knowledge about the game:
Read articles that talk about things like SLP farming and winning in the Axie Arena.
Study cards, this can be done on the Axie Infinity marketplace or on websites that talk in-depth about all the most commonly used cards.
Learn about in-game strategies.
Learn about Axie positioning so you will be ready once you receive your team.
Analyze the gameplay of the pro players and what cards they often use.
Start watching Axie Infinity YouTubers and Twitch Streamers. Some of my personal favorites are Brycent, ZyoriTV, Indes, The Buffessor, Axie on The Moon, and Sam Withers, just to name a few.
Join the Axie Infinity discord and start asking questions about the game.
Doing these things will prepare you to succeed in this game and climb the mmr ranks in the arena.
Researching Scholarships:
Research on Twitter using hashtags like #AxieScholarships to find managers who are looking for scholars. Please note: not everyone using this hashtag are managers, check their profiles to see if they are.
Look at who scholar managers are following to see what scholarship programs they might support. A good person to look at to see who they are following is Brycent who follows a ton of scholar managers.
Research on Reddit threads like Axie Scholarships to see open scholarships that you may be able to join. Take caution though, because some managers are not legit and may scam you. Always research the program before joining.
Follow Twitter accounts of managers to hear when they have openings that you can apply for. If you want to get in faster make a list of all the places that currently have openings. Find out how you can apply and go for it.
Check out websites like Axie Edge and Coin Gecko who have lists of scholarships already out there. You just have to put in the time to research them and apply when there is an opening.
Getting Accepted:
One thing that so many managers complain about is that aspiring scholars simply do not follow directions when asked. That is one of the biggest things that prevents people from landing a scholarship. If you do this you will already have an advantage over the competition.
When applying answer the questions in-depth and show your knowledge. Never give one-word answers. Always make sure to expand upon your thoughts.
When asked about your interests or hobbies be honest. Don’t just say you have none. Really think about it and then answer.
If they ask, tell them about your skills. Think of this as a job interview for a gaming position. Talk about your skills that are applicable to this job.
Talk about your prior gaming experience if you get the chance. If you were really good at or played a particular game for a long time mention it.
Be prepared to offer them a gaming CV or resume as we call it in the states. This should include your name, email, country, Discord name, Twitter name, gaming experience, skills, hobbies, interests, etc. If you worked in the game industry or gaming field before this would be a good time to mention that. There are tons of websites that offer templates for resumes/CVs, just pick one you like and fill it out.
Once you get a dm on Twitter or Discord from an interested manager make sure to reply within the day or at most by the next day. This shows that you are ready and willing to get started whenever they are ready to onboard you.
Be prepared to download Mavis Hub and create a Ronin Wallet if you haven’t already. Your manager should be able to help you if you get stuck or confused along the way.
What Not To Do:
Do not spam your resume on Twitter, Discord, Reddit, or really any platform for that matter.
Do not send managers your resume unless you are asked.
Do not beg for a scholarship anywhere. Everyone has a reason why they want to do this or need this. Your problems do not make you more important or valuable than anyone else.
Do not make comments like “still waiting” it tends to annoy managers and may get you blocked.
If you have made it this far, congrats you are ready to start working towards getting a scholarship. You may not get it as fast as I did but these tips should still help you get one much faster than some of your competition out there. This way you are prepared which will give you a competitive edge and make you more desirable to managers.
