BEAUTY.

The girl stared at her reflection with animosity. Her hair shined over the yellow lighting, making her auburn locks gleam like burning wood. That accentuated her tiny heart shape face.

She palmed her cupid bow lips that were as luscious as a fully ripe cherry. Then her fingers traced the freckles that adorned her cheekbones. But her stare focused on the blue gems of her eyes and the tears that were starting to flow.

A deep sigh escaped her lips. She wanted to be strong yet she didn’t know how to do it. She was alone. She was weak. She was vulnerable.

She was gifted with beauty incomparable to anyone in their kingdom yet it was her damnation. The king put up a search for the mist beautiful girl in their land and be wedded to the crown prince.

It was luck as seen by many, to be a queen is a dream every girl has. But to her, it was a curse. She was ripped out of her home and taken away the night before her wedding. She wonder ever since then what happened to the ones she left behind. And the life stolen from her.

It was the time for her wedding to the prince. The maids of the palace frolicked around her with awe, readying her for the event. She was made to wear a gown worth her whole village and jewels she haven’t seen in her entire life. Yet there was no joy in her heart only pain.

She dismissed the maids after finishing her hair.

Now, she looked at herself in the mirror and she couldn’t deny the beauty she hold.

She knelt under her bed and took a small wooden box. Inside was a small knife. She held the blade in her hands and in a swift movement she slashed through her face.

Her voice pierced through the entire room and down the hallway. The maids hurried to her room hearing her scream. And what they saw made each maid drop to their knees.

The upcoming queen’s dress was tainted with red. Blood dripped from her ruined face.

If emptiness was the prize of beauty, she would gladly take it away from herself.
