The amazing hype that the NFTs have engendered hasn't stayed only in the crypto-environment. Indeed, while the very first to be interested by this phenomena were more or less the "nurds", it is now a way more important issue for our world, as it could change a lot of aspects in our whole society.
Visa bought a Cryptopunk
GAFAM are more and more interested by cryptocurrency and blockchain. That also means that other huge financial companies start to be involved in this universe too. There are many examples of companies storing $BTC that you already know such as Tesla, SpaceX or MicroStrategy, and I'm sure other firms have some too but we don't know it.
The international leaders of payment systems have also kept an eye on this new technology and are already integrating the cryptocurrency payment to their services. Visa and Mastercard representatives have already answered positively to blockchain and cryptocurrency questions and it'll be usual to pay with it in the next few years.
But the interesting thing is that Visa didn't stop its adoption of the blockchain technology to the payment services. Indeed, you probably heard about what is a NFT (Non Fungible Token), and Visa purchased one. The firm has bought the Cryptopunk 7610 for 50 ETH which represented $150 000, as they're convinced that NFTs will play an important role in the future commerce, of the social medias and entertainment.
The cryptocurrency responsible of Visa has declared and explained why the NFTs will know a huge success in the future.
"Take the example of CryptoPunks, a collection of pixel art images. What started as an art experiment quickly became a cultural icon for the crypto community,"
"Over the past 60 years, Visa has built a collection of historic commercial artifacts - from the first paper credit cards to the zip-zap machine. Today, as we enter a new era of NFT-commerce, Visa welcomes CryptoPunk #7610 to its collection,"
If you still think that Visa is only opportunist by purchasing NFT and by incorporating cryptocurrency payments, here are other few facts and quotes from Visa. The company has dedicated a whole whitepaper around the NFTs, and also, they think and suppose that your crypto wallet address could be as important as your postal address.
To conclude with this article, Visa should be announcing other implications in the NFT universe, including partnerships with buyers, sellers and creators of Non Fungible Tokens.
And you, what do you think about Visa being more and more involved in the NFT industry ?
