Jake Gyllenhaal's movie "Nightcrawler (2014)". Where a person having sociopath maniacal personality gets whatever he wants. Its not about only "LUCK" but he worked hard for this purpose in every aspect. And as the title of this article is "Make Money, Your Life Has No Value", same thing happens in the movie.
The name of protagonist is "Lou Bloom". A young man who lives alone. But he is so much desperate for the job. Any kind of job. He tried to get job as security guard, as a labor at construction site, even he tried to work as intern for free but he never got any job. Life wants something else from him.
One night he came to know about the Crime Journalism. He came to know that some professional free lancers take footage of public accidents, fires, murder and crime incidents and then sell them to news channels for a very handsome amount. On the spot, he goes to that free lancer and ask for the job. He refuse to hire him. But this time Lou know what to do. He know how to do this. But this thing has a price. If he wants to survive in this cut throat business then he have to give his 100% in each accident, no matter what it takes.
Lou is like us. He gets some information from the internet, and some from his business courses. He understood every tactics of this businesses that he only can get his profit maximum when he can cover the whole market.
And if we talk about his sociopath tendencies, he is surely a mad businessman. But still nothing has touched his heart. Nothing to care about.
Jake Gyllenhaal's acting in this movie is intensional and superb. His acting greatly explained the character. A psycho behind these calm expressions. Although character's work is morally wrong or inhuman but his persistence and being focused on work made this movie as a inspirational movie. You can see learn a lot from this movie or even from this character.
1994's movie "Forest Gump" teaches us the same thing that if we work hard with focus then there is nothing that we can't achieve. Literally anything. It needs your focus only. Same thing happens with Lou Bloom in "Nightcrawler" movie.
Lou is not a fool but a smart boy. He works hard with focus. Even he sell stoled items with full bargaining. He do a full homework before that. He know about the advantages and faults of that thing. And his level of observation, OMG! He focus even on small details. For example when he started video production for news channels he learnt cinema first. Although movie didn't mention this thing but we can judge from the scene when he talked with Nena that how much he cares about cinema frames, emotions, brutal scenes, lighting, angles, colours and dialogues.
He is so deeply indulged in his work that he find art in everything. Even he see art in blood. For example if crime scene didn't match his imagination, he tries some changes to the position of the body so that everything seem perfect for the camera. So that everyone get shocked and emotional after watching the footage. Lou invests his much time in learning. He mentioned this thing in the movie too that he learnt many businesses courses online. He know how to talk with someone, how to convince someone.
We see sense of mermorizing in his talking style. Seems like he memorized this dialogue before performing it to someone. Even in first five minutes of the movie while watching him giving interview for the job I was impressed that he is different from other job applicants. Although he was desperate for the job but he never show his problems to someone. Even I like the way he recruites employees for his business. Although his business is small but he lives like a big businessman. He got all characteristics of a business tycoon. For example: giving less to the employees, managing his monopoly in the industry, getting laid with a client for the sake special services.
Deep inside he is a robber who want everything like by hook or by crook. Despite doing all this he never feels guilty even the movie ends. But there is a reason of that. This character is portrayed like this. We feel anger that the persons like Lou get all what they wants, but we should think that he worked hard with focus irrespective of the business he do. He work is morally wrong, for sure, but not illegal. That's why I watch this movie as an inspirational movie.
Comment down if you watched ths movie before. And if you have not watched then watch it as an inspirational movie. Highly recommended.
