Intro
Though many natural medicines exist to alleviate pain like natural anti inflammatory properties of omega 3s found in certain nuts or antioxidants found in almost every plant. In some cases when a person has medical issues that have no surgical options often an anti inflammatory is simply not enough. I believe in the power of plants and todays post is about a plant i believe has been getting a bad reputation kratom which happens to also be an antioxidant .

Many people who have heard of Kratom in recent years probably will tell you one of two things. Either I heard that it gets you high or it's dangerous saying something like they know someone who overdosed on it. I am writing this because I personally used Kratom for pain for about 4 years now, and Kratom has been getting some bad press as of late. Everything is dangerous if abused however you are not likely to overdose on strictly Kratom. This post is intended to explain what I have experienced my personal favorite strain and my method of preparation to use Kratom.

Kratom is not likely to kill you on its own most often the reports of overdoses are involving other drugs mixed together with Kratom. Either from being built up in the users system or just intentionally mixed by the person. Kind of goes without saying but you shouldn't mix Kratom with anything stronger than marijuana including alcohol.

The active alkaloid that is going to give the user a pain relief effect is mitagynine this is found in minor concentrations in Kratoms leaves around 10%-5% this chemical is not all that dangerous by itself with a surprisingly low LD50.

LD50 Definition

In toxicology, the median lethal dose, LD50 (abbreviation for "lethal dose, 50%"), LC50 (lethal concentration, 50%) or LCt50 is a measure of the lethal dose of a toxin, radiation, or pathogen. The value of LD50 for a substance is the dose required to kill half the members of a tested population after a specified test duration.

LD50 of mitragynine
Typically scientists use rats to determine a substances LD50 from what I can gather the LD50 of mitragynine is around 547.7mg/kg.
To put this into perspective the LD50 of nicotine is 50 mg/kg in rats ,caffeine is 367 mg/kg in rats.

Actual risks

The dangers that I would like to warn users about are not to mix Kratom with anything stronger than marijuana. Humans can not digest the plant matter of Kratom similarly we also can't digest coffee beans. So you should avoid eating a large amounts of plant matter of both these substances. Many people use concentrates or capsules filled with leaf powder that should be avoided by those who may be using Kratom frequently. I personally try to only use Kratom tea, having tried the concentrates and I don't like how strong they are/aren't. The capsules are not good idea let's just leave it at that the tea has a bad taste but that is kind of a good thing keeping you from doing to much.

How i use Kratom

My recipe for Kratom tea is 4g of red meng da Kratom mixed with tsp of lemon juice and left to sit for about a hour. This mixture is then added to 1 cup boiling water and then let it sit until it cools. Then strain the mixture i make several servings in advance so I use a French press for coffee to strain my tea but a coffee filter should work.

This is a single serving i wouldn't recommend exceeding this in a day.

For the taste problem which you'll know if you have tried it tastes horrible I found that mixing in chi tea and nutmeg helps a lot .

Kratom has been facing almost the same type of treatment that marijuana has had to overcome. This is due to lack of proper understanding of exactly how it works and the proper way to use it. This is why Kratom is in danger of being outlawed even though they have not been able to actually attribute a death to a Kratom overdose ever. People seem to have a negative view of Kratom due to mostly misinformation and misuse the DEA in the United States has attempted to outlaw Kratom already in 2016 only to be stopped by protests and a petition. I hope that Kratom doesn't get the same treatment that marijuana has historically faced.

Conclusion

Kratom is coffees cousin both of these are probably my favorite plants other than Mary Jane (marijuana). Honestly the most dangerous one on the list is coffee believe it or not. While I am not saying that you should be using Kratom for pain relief every day . I believe that it is a better idea than most pharmaceuticals for long-term pain management. This includes acetaminophen and Motrin by the way both of which are much worse for you then Kratom when used properly.

I purposefully didn't include my preferred supplier but if you're able to purchase Kratom legally and would like suggestions on products and providers you can try messaging me either on my social media listed below or ask me in the comments.

Kratom is amazing. I just hate having to choke down all of that powder or the leaves. I wish they could make a extract in a tincture form of it.
