Intro

While exploring chesatochi's YouTube page the other day i came across an interesting video that covered a service that not only allowed for mining for certain crypto such as EOS. But allowed for contribution of your system resources for scientific research. The application is called boid this article will address exactly what boid is and how it works.

Boid

Boid is a service that is tying to lower the the barrier of entry for non technical users allowing average consumers to participate more easily in blockchains and distributed computing projects. Boid has both a mining functionality that utilizes system resources such as CPU's GPU's and HDD the specific % of resources used is selected by the user in the boid app.

However the mining is just one of boids many functions donating your systems resources that helps researchers solve difficult problems is perhaps the most unique and important function.They have competitions and air drops as well, the competitions are between different teams that are selected by the user. I joined trybe because they where a team i already had been a member of. Boid has its own token as well called the BOID which offers a Proof of steak mining function through the app as well. However the BOID token isnt that valuable listed as $0.00005895 at the time of writing on https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/boid so as the chesatochi video points out its not the best idea to mine for BOID but other crypto offered on the service.

My experience

It was not all that difficult to set up im mining for EOS off my AMD radeon GPU. which is not that easily set up through say cudo miner or minergate due to the inefficiency of my particular model of GPU. Boid actually dose not require the use of computer though there is an option for cell phones and ios as well. My computer was a good test canidate though because traditionally i would have had to overclock my GPU to mine and utilizing my computer i got a better idea of how much system resources where required.

Helping researchers

Utilizing collective computational resources of users to run simulations.A boid user contributes to assist in scientific advancements in astronomy climatology machine learning (AI), & perhaps most importantly Medicine. By distributing small tasks to individual devices globally, collecting and verifying the results combining them together to get a big solution. The overall cost of doing such research in a traditional super computer used for projects would be much higher.

Conclusion

There are an endless number of mining services and applications available. Boid is rather unique in its approach that promotes research of scientific questions not yet answered. Effectively allowing the average user to contribute to solving problems they usually could not. Given both the unique nature of boid and the fact that the mining is rather simple compared to other services in my experience. I would recommend checking out Boid.com and their services.
