Lover after Love

1 33

The time will come when, with elation you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror and each will smile at the other's welcome, and say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger who was yourself. Then it will be as if all the works of your life were flowers aspiring to be your own lips. You will smooth them within your hand; you are their parent and their end. By Pablo Neruda

In this passage from "Lover after Love," Neruda shows us how one might learn to love himself or herself again after a breakup or divorce. He encourages us to embrace who we are and accept our imperfections as part of what makes us unique individuals.

Love yourself first and then you can love others better. Love yourself first and then you can love others more deeply. Love yourself first, or else how will anyone else ever love you? Self-love is the most important kind of love there is, because it's the only one that matters if your goal is to be happy in all aspects of your life, from friendships to relationships to family dynamics and everything in between. The more we start loving ourselves, the less time we spend worrying about what others think about us or feeling insecure about our appearance, which helps us feel more confident when meeting new people—and this confidence attracts even more friends into our lives!

Love yourself, then we love others, if we can love ourselves well, then we will also be able to love others better and deeper than love for ourselves.
