Everybody believes so much in hard work, people always talk about hard work as if everything depends on hard work alone so they work and work hard without achieving much success
I don't believe that success depends solely on hard work, if success depends only on hard work then those people that do the hardest and most menial jobs would have been the wealthiest in the world but they're not because some people keep running around and round in a circle without heating the required breaking point
One has to work smart, soft work pays more than hard work
I remember a story of one man that had his big engine damaged, he went looking for someone to fix the engine. He hired several experts who came and did everything they could but the engine refused to start. He used his hands to try and hired several other engineers to help him. They all continued working on the engine but it still wouldn't start
Just before he gave up on the engine, another engineer came and offered to try but insisted that they talk about the price first. The engineer asked to be paid 100dollars to fix the engine and the owner of the engine agreed
The engineer spent an hour checking and studying the engine without even working in it. While he was studying the engine. The owner and the other engineers stood looking strangely at him to see what he would do and how he was going to fix the engine still having his clothes on
After about an hour and thirty minutes, he brought out a hammer and hit a spot on the engine and it started working again to the amazement of everyone present. The owner of the engine got angry and felt reluctant to part with hundred dollars for a "simple work" that didn't last a minute
He asked the engineer why he charged so high for a job that lasted less than one minute; the engineer smiled and answered: "for hitting the hammer, 1 dollar and for knowing where to hit, 99 dollars"
That goes to show that smart work is better than hard work. The rest of the engineers worked very hard even harder than the last one that fixed the engine but they couldn't achieve anything because they were not smart enough to check and finds out where the problem was. But the smart engineer didn't work until he found out what the actual problem was
We see similar things in life every day. Some people rush into work without really observing very well to know what or where the problem lies. You might spend a lot of time or years running around a circle without achieving much success. It's better to spend more time working smart and intelligently than to spend lesser time working hard without achieving results
