It's appalling how some big companies that feel they have made it treat their customers as if they don't matter, mtn is one of such companies, I'm sorry to mention names but I have to, so that people can easily relate and understand where I'm coming from
Mtn telecommunication company is no doubt the widest coverage in Africa, they took communication to a lot of countries in Africa, entering even interior towns and villages to make sure that they're everywhere just like their slogan "everywhere you go". But one problem with them is that since they became giants in the world of communication in Africa, especially Nigeria, they treat their customers like they don't matter
I won't blame them too much because they learnt whatever they're doing to us from Nigeria, Nigeria government treats the citizens like animals in the zoo, consequently, other firms and foreign companies that come into Nigeria to invest start behaving the same way towards us and nothing happens at the end if the day, that's Nigeria for you
When Foreign companies go to other countries to invest, they're supposed to respect the citizens of that country and give them the best quality of goods and services that they want and deserve, reverse is the case in Nigeria. Nigeria government see the citizens like " nothing", so do companies in Nigeria. From banks to telecommunication companies to the police, the army, in fact, virtually every sector in Nigeria are guilty of that, including our senators and political office holders who are supposed to speak for the people
Well, enough of the long talk, let me go straight to the issue. For more than 3 days now the banks have been having issues with mtn over the percentage they get from mobile recharge. Formally, the banks get 4.5% whenever a customer recharges their phone with their bank, but now mtn Nigeria cut the bank percentage to 2.5%. In retaliation, the banks stopped the services without any prior information to their customers, no form of explanations nor apologies whatsoever, keeping their millions of customers in the dark and suffering
I can recount the pain and suffering that I've been through over the past 2 or 3 days now because I've not been able to recharge my lines, I was inconvenienced in so many ways and I'm sure a lot of other subscribers and customers of the various banks who are used to recharging their phone lines through mobile banking suffered and are still suffering the same thing
No bank has ever bothered to explain or apologize to their teeming customers, which goes to show that we don't matter to them, all they care about is the money they get from us, this is so bad! They keep doing such things because they do away with it each time. After all, the citizens don't do anything to register their displeasure. Had it been we protest once in a while against some of these things, they wouldn't keep treating us like some piece of garbage
Think of the inconveniences they caused millions of bank customers and mtn subscribers all over the country, think of businesses that were affected, and so on. If all of us can protest against it, even if they resolve the issue and start the services again, boycott mobile recharge and other similar services so they can know how it feels. I wish we can all have one mind on this because what they did, keeping their customers in the dark is a huge slap and neglect and if we don't react, as usual, they'll do worse things in the future and nothing will happen, not even the government will someak because they started it all. What a shame!
