Osondi Owendi is a phrase in Igbo, Nigeria popularized by the late high life legend, chief Osita Steven Osadebe which means that one man's pleasure is another man's sorrow; one man's food is another mans poison.

There are two ways and two similar meanings to that; some things happen to a man in life that makes them happy but some enemies seeing how happy the man is, get angry for the success of their enemy. In this case, what makes a man happy makes his enemy sad and what makes him sad makes his enemy happy. Osondi Owendi

On the other hand, something can happen generally which affects everybody at the same time. But no matter how bad the effect, there must be some people that benefit from the ugly situation; just like a few people are benefiting from the pandemic while the rest of the people are suffering.  Osondi owendi

No matter what we see in life, no matter what happens, there are always those that benefit and those that suffer, so don't feel like the world has come to an end when you find yourself in "not so bright" side of life, the globe continues to spin around, so if you cry Today, you might have reasons to laugh tomorrow, just be patient and hopeful while working hard to achieve your goals

But when you find yourself in the bright side of life, never look down on the "down siders" because nothing lasts forever both the good and the bad

Take your time to observe and help the needy when you're privileged to do so, don't say it's their fate and leave them to suffer while you enjoy all the good fortunes. Be your brother's keeper because nothing is ever permanent in life. Osondi owendi
