Nigeria is said to be the giant of Africa in terms of population and size, Nigeria has a lot of tribes and different cultures making it one of the most diverse and populous African nations. The many tribes and cultures in Nigeria made it one of the most popular in the world and many other African countries look up to Nigeria
In recent times, however, it's been seen that diverse cultures and many tribes can also have other adverse effects on a country like Nigeria. The government in the center always has all the powers making it possible for a tribe to be more powerful than others during every administration.
This fact has never been given thorough thought or consideration until the current regime led by president general Muhammad Buhari came into power. They have divided Nigeria into many tribes and religions without saying a single word
They keep preaching unity but they keep on dividing the country. Nigeria has been shattered into many parts tribally, politically, and many other ways one can ever think of. People are getting discouraged by the day, nothing to be happy about, there's absolutely nothing to be proud of about Nigeria right now, no sector is working. People pay for electricity but they don't get it, an average Nigerian barely has access to electricity for up to 8 hours a day but they keep getting estimated bills because the electricity company refuses to give a meter to the people. They do whatever they like, they increase electricity tariff anytime and anyhow they want, and if the electricity users can't pay up they'll have their lines disconnected, our government is defrauding us in our own country
What about water? Water is "liquid gold" in nigéia, you don't see it anywhere but there is a water company. A lot of Nigerians have lived and died without ever having access to water, individuals ha e to sink boreholes and provide water for themselves and others. This has become a normal thing that nobody even remembers that it's the responsibility of the government to provide water for us
Can we talk about roads? That's a no-go area. Our roads are terrible death traps, accidents waiting to happen. You can rarely see a smooth road of 100 meters, there are potholes everywhere; during the rainy season the roads turn to ponds and swamps for frogs and other animals
As an oil-producing country, we still can't afford petroleum products to fuel our generators because every household depends on generators for electricity. The products are so expensive that only the rich can afford them
Insecurity is increasing by the day, different groups of terrorists are emerging daily and the government is doing absolutely nothing to curb the menace. No one is sure of the next day, everybody is scared because they don't know where or when the terrorists will strike each time,
Sometimes when I remember these things and talk about them some people say I'm unpatriotic, that I don't believe in my country. What does it mean to be patriotic because I don't seem to know the meaning anymore? How do you expect me to fold my arms and seal my lips while things degenerate every day and every Nigerian life is in danger? This is the only way I can express myself because if you talk, all the security agencies in Nigeria will come after you, sometimes they kill their victim and nothing will happen, life goes on. Is that the life you expect one to live and keep calm?
Our children do not have access to quality education; I challenge every Nigerian on this platform to mention one, just one government school that meets international school standard, majority of the schools are in deplorable states, comparing them to "international standard" is even an insult to the word "school"
The latest reports show that about 15 million Nigeria children are out of school. These are children that were once in school but couldn't continue along the line and dropped out due to one reason or the other which is mostly due to lack of funds. Now, what about those that have never been to school at all? They are numerous, multitudes!
Why are we still called the giant of Africa when even toothpick is imported, no business thieves in Nigeria except crime and criminality, banditry has become the latest business in Nigeria, a very lucrative business practiced by a particular region and the government always support them by giving them more money to purchase more arms to grow their business. What a country!
Please don't tell me about patriotism. "Think of what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you" that's shat they always quote for some of us when we point out the ills, deceiving themselves while things degenerate further. The person that made that quote was an American where the system is working. Apart from crime and criminality, which other system is working perfectly in Nigeria? Please answer me
It's so disheartening that the same people that opposed senator Enahoro when he moved the motion for Nigeria's independence in 1958 are still the same impoverishing everybody, how did we get here?
Notice that I didn't talk about the health sector, it's not that the sector is fair or anything to write home about but because there's nothing to say about it, the state of the health sector is evident in the attitude of our leaders when they or any member of their family gets sick. They fly them abroad immediately for medication. That tells you all you need to know about the health sector
I was not born during the slave trade and the colonial era but I think I prefer that era to what we have now in Nigeria. The country is completely baseless and shattered and what annoys me most is that everybody pretends as if nothing is happening, for how long shall we continue suffering and smiling, living in pretense?
The whole world is watching but no one is talking. Nigeria is in a state of anarchy. Terrorism is a legal act in Nigeria backed by the government and the terrorists shielded against the law-abiding citizens yet the African Union, United Nations, and other agencies look the other way. I'm sure they are all waiting for. Yes! That's what they are all waiting for. Man's inhumanity to man!
