You must have heard about the Greek gift, you might have been using it because it has become so popular that it's even recognized in the English literature
"Greek gift" became very popular after the encounter between Greece and Troy. Greece and Troy had been in a fight for a long time, along the line, Greece decided to call for peace. They offered a large, wooden horse, the Trojan horse to Troy
The gift was very beautiful and large, as big and beautiful as the statue of liberty which was gifted the United States of America by France
Unbeknown to Troy that the "Greek gift" was just a ploy to distract them, to take their minds away from the enmity that existed between them and Greece and the war that lasted a long time between them.
The Trojan horse was brought into Troy, they didn't know that Greek soldiers were hiding inside the big wooden horse.
At night, while the soldiers of Troy were making merry, wining and dining over the gift, celebrating the peace agreement between them and Greece, Greek soldiers came out from the wooden horse and slaughtered the unsuspecting soldiers who were already drunk.
That was how Troy lost the long waged battle to Greece because of something as "harmless" as a mere gift. Now you know the origin of "Greek gift"
Troy soldiers allowed themselves to be carried away by the gift and it's beauty not considering the giver of the gift; they fell so cheaply, so easily. That's the power of a gift
There's something about a gift. It has a "magical power", a gift has a way of softening the heart towards the giver, even if they're the enemy.
When a gift is offered, the receiver is appeased; but we have to be careful when we receive gifts from people and the kind of gifts we accept because you don't know what people have in mind per time.
And some people know how powerful and enticing a gift can be so they use it against their enemies just like Greece did against Troy
The heart of the giver is not always as beautiful and innocent as the gift, be careful of the gifts you accept and from whom you accept them

Whenever you're offered a gift, especially by a stranger or a perceived rival or enemy, especially when there's no need for the gift, you have to be alert and very careful to avoid receiving a Greek gift
