Mouthwatering street foods in the Philippines are so popular especially during summer even to foreigners visiting our country. So when you happen to come in the Philippines, make sure you try some of our delicious and unique foods you can find in every corner of the streets.

  1. Balut (right side of pic) - also known as fertilized duck egg. It has a savory fluid inside that tastes like a chicken soup. When you crack it open on the top, make sure to sip the soup first otherwise your hands might get wet from it. After you finish the soup, you can now open the shell until the mid part of the egg and then you can either take a bite from it or eat the whole thing inside. It tastes different but so delicious, I promise. But you have to have the guts to eat it cause sometimes, you can see the baby duck peeking from the inside. price: 15 php

  2. Penoy (left side) - “custard” egg as they say. For People who don’t have the stomach to eat balut, this one is the alternative. It doesn’t have baby duck in it and this one is easier to eat. Half of It has a “custardy” texture of thing inside and half a flowy boiled egg yolk texture. Awesome taste. 🤤 price: 12 php

Balut> Penoy> Regular Boiled Egg

(Boy I am getting really hungry while doing this article...)

3. Isaw - Tip: more delicious when it’s Toasted. Chicken intestines precooked (boiled) and then grilled. Crunchy/ chewy savory taste. Dipped in sauce made with ketchup and sugar sautéd in garlic and onion, or just vinegar with onion (or mix). I can probably eat ten sticks of these in just a couple of minutes. Price: 5 php per stick.

4. Betamax - Grilled Pig Blood preboiled in vinegar and soysauce. Named after the betamax cause the shape resembles it. Same sauce used in Isaw. It has a chewy texture you will not expect when you’re actually eating a blood and has a really nice flavor. Couple of sticks and a can of soda and sure you’re gonna have a good time. Price: 5 php per stick

5. Halo-halo. Summertime desert! This guy comes with almost everything on your table. Shaved ice with milk, a handful of Caramelized banana, jack fruit, coconut, sweet potato, tapioca and gulaman at the bottom and “yema” on top. Those are the usual ingredients. It can also come with Ice cream on top, flan and ube jam. You have to mix the ingredients well before eating it in order for the flavors to burst in your mouth. “Halo” means “mix” thats why it’s called halo halo. Of course you can make your own recipe at home and add anything you like as per your preference. Price: 40-60 php per regular serving

Done and Hungry!! Hope you can really visit Philippines and taste these amazing foods soon.
