Garden Styles

·        **CRAZY PAVING** Broken pieces of paving slabs or natural stone can be used to make crazy paving in a garden. Gaps for low-growing plants can be left in the edges of the path to create an irregular, natural effect

.   ·        **CIRCULAR SLABS** Concrete discs provide stepping stones through a flower bed, leading perhaps to a compost heap hidden by shrubs. The discs are readily available at garden centers in a range of colors and textures.

·        **TREE-TRUNK WALK** Sawn sections of tree trunks make an unusual walkway in a large, informal garden. A tree-felling company should be able to supply them. Before being laid, they should be thoroughly soaked in wood preservatives.

·        **COPING SLABS** In a formally laid-out garden, concrete coping slabs have been set in a bed of gravel to form a curving path. The raised circular bed has been constructed by driving wooden posts in the ground, filling in with soil and planting soil, and planting small shrubs and ground cover.

·        **RIVER-WASHED STONES** Specimen shrubs in a garden bed stand out against a background of river-washed stones edged with a border of granite setts. A piece of driftwood rests on the stones in the foreground. Another striking effect could be obtained by using shredded bark instead of stones.
