Explanation of the steps
Doughnuts are made from dough and are deep-fried snacks that are mostly enjoyed for breakfast. Doughnuts will come in many flavours, size, and shape. Preparation of doughnuts will take approximately three hours, 2 and a half hours preparing the ingredients and less than 30 minutes cooking. The first step in the preparation of doughnuts is gathering the required ingredients. You will require the above-listed ingredients to prepare some doughnuts enough for the family breakfast. The second step in the preparation process is mixing some warm water with yeast in a small bowl, the yeast will help the doughnut to rise and will require some warm water to activate. The mixture is left for five minutes to activate. The third step is adding sugar, salt shortening, eggs, flour and milk to the yeast mixture. Only 2 cups of flour will be used in this stage. The mixture is then mixed with a wooden spoon. To ensure that all ingredients are well mixed, the dry and wet ingredients are mixed separately and then combined.
The remaining flour is then mixed with the mixture at a low speed and is added % cup until the dough is soft and does not stick to the bowl. The fifth step involves kneading the dough with your hand for approximately five minutes until it becomes elastic and soft. The other preparation step is setting the dough in a bowl which is greased to give it time, about one hour, to rise. Cover the bowl with a clean towel giving the dough time to rise, double in volume.
The dough after one hour is then rolled on a floured surface until it is about 1.3 cm thick. Using your hands cut the dough into doughnuts shapes, or you may use a doughnut cutter. Next, cover the doughnuts again with a clean towel and give them time to rise until they double their size. The next step involves the preparation of glaze. Preparation of glaze involves melting the butter over medium heat, add vanilla and sugar (confectioner's) in it and then stir until smooth. After preparation of glaze heat, some oil in a deep fryer for five minutes until the temperature reads 175 degrees on the kitchen thermometer. Please kindly observe the temperature to avoid the greasy taste of the doughnuts. Carefully slide the doughnuts into the oil using some metal tongs to turn the doughnuts as they float on the surface until both sides are golden brown. More precaution is taken in this step. Next, remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain them on a wire rack. Ensure that all the oil drips off before you glaze the doughnuts.
Finally, dip the doughnuts in the glaze while they are still warm and ensure they coat evenly and then place them to dry on a wire rack.
