Industrial Revolution 4 and Education 4.0 Collision
Change is constant. And as the world continues to reach the peak of modernity in industrialization, it has entered the era of the fourth generation industrial creating changes, which was characterized by increasing connectivity, interaction, and development of digital systems, artificial intelligence, and virtual. Moreover, Education 4.0 is a general term used to describe various ways to integrate cybertechnoloy both physically and not into learning, and the response to the needs of Industrial Revolution 4.
The 4 Industrial Revolution, characterized by technological disruption, has significant implication in education system. We all know that these two aspects create a strong hold onto one another. Firstly, the success of such industrial revolution is being inclined to the quality of educators. The expertise of the teachers can be used to adapt to new technologies and global challenges. While, the education system is responsive to its possible needs.
Fisk, 2017 mentioned that the new version of learning promotes learners to learn, not only skills and knowledge, but also to identify the source to learn these skills and knowledge. In addition, he explained that the new vision of learning is aimed highly to improve the digital technologies competences across all levels to enhance the use of technology in teaching and active learning. Education can be sought to form a creative and innovative generation. According to the published journal of Lase, 2019, one of them can be achieved by optimizing the use of technology as an educational aid that is expected to produce output that can adapt and change the era for its betterment.
But, education 4.0 is also resistant to change at a greater level. According to Lawrence et al., 2019, most of them are comfortable teaching the traditional ways. Furthermore, the teachers will resist to change or will not step out from their comfort zone that they have been putting into practice for many years. Many educators feel unprepared to use technology to support student learning. The study is in line with the previous study conducted by Siddiqui (2007) whom concluded that most teachers does not see the importance or necessities in having access to the latest technologies especially in teaching and learning.
However, it is also said that every educator needs to obtain and utilise the necessary information and communication technologies of today. Lawrence et al., 2019 mentioned that it is proven that, an educator with the positive mind-set are most likely the ones that produces a conducive learning environment. Moreover, Abraham & Reginald (2016) further added that if the technology is to be appropriately used to support student collaboration inquiry, and interactive learning, teachers’ beliefs about teaching and learning must also change.
As we encounter changes in the crucial aspect of our lives, it is also vital to be adaptive to it. We can't refute the fact that Industrial Revolution 4 has done something great for the needs of Education 4.0, and vice-versa. It is just a matter of accepting and acknowledging these changes, and doing actions to go with it, especially when it is for the betterment of everyone, and even the collision of Industrial Revolution 4 and Education 4.0.
It's very informative!
