Cucumber is one of the fruits that we often encounter in tropical countries, including Indonesia. Cucumber turns out to have many benefits for the health of the human body. Besides being able to be used for daily consumption, cucumber is also good for controlling blood pressure in people with hypertension.

Cucumbers contain a lot of potassium which is an electrolyte substance that helps regulate the amount of sodium or content in grams that is retained by the kidneys in the human body. This makes potassium responsible for controlling human blood pressure.

According to research from the American Heart Association, high blood pressure makes the arteries in the heart stiff and their flexibility decreases, making it difficult for blood to flow smoothly. Over time, this condition can worsen the performance of the heart in pumping blood and eventually lead to heart disease.

Giving cucumber to hypertensive patients is recommended if the patient does not have a history of other diseases that can cause serious problems due to the administration of the cucumber. One of the contraindications for patients who are not recommended to give cucumber is in patients who have a history of gastritis or ulcers. Giving cucumber to Gastritis patients can also prevent the rise of stomach acid but can also cause irritation of the gastric mucosa even though the effect on blood pressure can be decreased.

One of the side effects of giving cucumber fruit is that it can cause flatulence, this flatulence can occur because the cucumber has a compound called "Curcubitacin" where this compound interferes with the digestive tract, especially for those who have a sensitive digestive system. Another side effect is that excessive administration of cucumbers can interfere with the blood clotting process, invite allergic reactions, contain toxic compounds, cause fluid loss in the body and can cause excess vitamin C.

While the benefits of consuming cucumbers in regular doses are that they can improve bone health, prevent dehydration in the body, protect the brain from neurological diseases, support heart health, help lower blood sugar and improve skin health.
