Don’t you know that the media has a contribution to setting a beauty standard? Then you need to know why they still maintain it.

Media is used for communication and broadcasting information for the masses however media becomes now a mainstream over the years of service. They earn money from Sponsors and from the viewers. Sponsors can be about food, cars, luxurious, or beauty products.

They use advertisements to showcase their products but it’s more effective if it has personality endorsing it. In any form of media like radio, television, newspaper or social media, you will encounter a personality who announces their sponsors. Sometimes they will add up a comment about how good that product is.

Example in the Western, the majority of them are white skin but their media is promoting tanning, or having a tan skin means beauty or sexy. In their movies the celebrities do tan in the movie and apply some lotions to make it more bronze or tan. Their entertainment industry, accepting celebrities who have tan skin but blond, like a barbie. So that people will more agree that this is a beauty standard. Media is promoting something that you don’t have just to earn money for. So people will still buy the product that they endorse. They want us to feel insecure or ugly. It’s not different here in Asia that having fair skin means beauty. Even though there’s nothing wrong with being born with fair skin, tan skin or darker skin.
