In Japan, it is very common to find manga that are adaptations of novels, light novels, anime, movies, or simply printed versions of comics published on the internet, the same as the original. However, in recent years, adaptations of novels and webcomics that present a more careful version of the original content are becoming popular. Following the example of light novels, marked by 'The Irregular at Magic High School' or 'Re:Zero', IVREA brings us one of the most popular webcomic adaptations of recent years: 'One Punch Man'.

The story of One Punch Man revolves around Saitama , an unemployed young man who, after facing a terrible monster to save a boy with a curious morphology, decides to train hard to become a hero and help people in trouble. . At first, this wouldn't be too different from any other superhero series, were it not for the character's carefree nature, which at times makes him seem like a high school student, more concerned with video games and his manga than being a hero. .

Accompanying Saitama will be Genos , a young cyborg who comes to Z City in search of the cyborg who destroyed his hometown. There, to test his strength, he will face a monster that, when he had Genos practically at his mercy, is easily defeated by Saitama in one fell swoop.punchclout. This inadvertent show of force makes Genos marvel at the power of our bald protagonist and decides to become his disciple, despite Saitama's reluctance, in search of obtaining the secret of his power and achieving the necessary strength to be able to satisfy his desire to revenge. Will he be able to not catch Saitama's spirit or will he fall into the clutches of laziness and manga marathons over the weekend?

Throughout the story, we follow the adventures of this pair of curious heroes, since they become part of the Hero Association (an association that employs heroes throughout the country) and their rise through the ranks of the herself, facing as many enemies as she meets, with the particularity that Saitama is considered a low-class hero (Class C), while Genos is considered one of the most powerful heroes of the Association, reaching Class S directly from his entry in it.

In addition to the heroes, one of the most interesting points of 'One Punch-Man' will be found in its wide cast of secondary characters, among which Sonic stands out , the thief with ninja abilities who considers Saitama his nemesis and greatest enemy, seeking to duel at the slightest opportunity. While it is true that the skills of the young shinobi are on a par with very few mortals, his encounters with Saitama usually end up generating more laughter than anything else, with poor Sonic facing humiliating defeats in each of his appearances. .

Among the rest of the secondary we find the other heroes, members of the Hero Association, who use their powers to protect the weakest... or at least that's how it should be. With a few exceptions (such as the case of the Justice Cyclist 'Mumer Rider'), most of the heroes are subjects with more problems than ordinary mortals and tend to appear more concerned with their image or reputation than defending the weak, although, when it comes to the truth, most of them usually show their faces.

Within this association we find heroes like Silver Fang (also known as 'Master Bang'), an old martial arts master, also considered one of the most powerful heroes, who is precisely one of the first to recognize Saitama's potential, trying to (unsuccessfully) recruit him for his dojo, in which there is only one student left. Other heroes that make an appearance in this headline use names as varied as 'Atomic Samurai', 'Tatsumaki' ('Growing Tornado'), 'Fubuki' ('Blizzard of Hell') or 'Metal Bat', among others.

Another very interesting point of 'One Punch-Man' is its villains, who are characterized by taking the classic motivations of other typical series of the genre to ridiculous extremes , creating absolutely hilarious situations one chapter after another. Mole-men, mad scientists, aliens, mutants and many other enemies make their appearance in these pages, although they are not necessarily ordered by force, interspersing the most powerful villains, with real weaklings that allow us to see more of the secondary heroes.

In general, the plot of 'One-Punch Man' moves away from the typical superhero story and presents a much more relaxed approach, constantly falling into parody of the classic stereotypes of the genre. It is precisely this shameless parody that makes this series such a fresh approach, since it reduces the gratuitous and incoherent character development that characterizes other works to the bare minimum, making the mold from which they have come so clearly identifiable that it is necessary to invest excessive time in explaining each one of them.

However, when they do, it is undeniable that both ONE (the screenwriter), and Yusuke Murata (the cartoonist), are capable of giving scenes that have nothing to envy to the best works of the genre, exciting and entertaining the reader in parts. same. His dedication in this regard reaches such a point that, in some cases, it becomes even difficult to remember that the original work from which 'One Punch-Man' comes is a webcomic that its original author, ONE, drew and scripted in his free time to post on your blog.

As for the drawing, especially when compared to the original work, it is obvious that the level of detail by Yusuke Murata, despite not being the most outstanding in the industry, is up to one of the most fun in recent years, in addition to having moments of action that make not only other manga, but the anime itself have difficulty keeping up. One of the most characteristic features of this series is Saitama's face, which alternates perfectly defined plans, with others in which it looks like a stick figure drawn by a primary school boy, which works perfectly with the general proposal of the series and the character of its protagonist.

In short, IVREA has been very successful in bringing this jewel to our country, where it has become, not only the best-selling manga, but also the best-selling comic header in Spain during 2016 (as confirmed by Leandro Oberto at the Salón del Manga de Barcelona) and a success among critics, also including both its location and its edition.

ONE

Author of the original webcomic and screenwriter of this adaptation, he currently has only two long works published under his name: 'One Punch-Man' and 'Mob Psycho', both being very well received by critics and the public, both with adaptations. to anime produced by the studios 'Madhouse' and 'Bones', respectively.

Yusuke Murata

A manga cartoonist, he became known with the American football manga 'Eyeshield 21', in collaboration with the scriptwriter Riichiro Inagaki, and which was published for seven years in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. In addition to this, he has also worked on the design of characters and settings for some titles in the 'Mega Man' saga and some short serialization manga, until reaching his best-known work to date: 'One Punch-Man '.
