What is the roumored Telegram data leak that can shake up the Crypto Community
The crypto social community has been brewing in rumours the past day regarding a possible Telegram leak that would expose a lot of projects' and crypto influencers' dealings.
It all started when an anonymous Twitter account with the handle @adyingnobody (A Dying Nobody) made a Twitter thread about a Telegram leak he had discovered that allowed him to view private conversation of Telegram users even without invitation to be part of the groups where the conversations were taking place.
The data supposedly collected from October 2019 and until now includes 137.7 GB of telegram messages and chats from influencers, project teams, VCs discussions about a variety of topics including crypto scams, pump & dump schemes, market manipulations, orgies, sexual crimes, assassinations and whatever someone can think of. This could inadvertently destroy the reputation of many people and projects in the community.
According to the poster, the data will be released in three incremental chunks. The first batch, on June 15th will include messages of Crypto influencers with hundreds to millions of followers talking about ways to scam the community and project rug pulls.
The second batch will be released on June 30th and will include discussions of members from some of the Top 200 in Marketcap crypto projects.
The third batch will be released on July 7th and will include a full dump of the available leaked data.
The whistleblower claims that it will give access to journalists after they are vetted for conflict of interest.
There are two plays here:
First, the exploit and data dump is real, which will be the hottest topic of this bear market. Lots of people and projects will be exposed. This won't be the first time such things surface. Part of crypto community is made of outright scammers, criminals, and people with questionable morals and past. Thus, it won't be a surprise if more shady dealings and criminal offenses are exposed that link to members of our community.
Second, this is a masterfully elaborated social engineering scheme.
If you scrutinize the account and claims there is plentiful room for doubt. The account was newly created for this post on Twitter.
The Telegram exploit has not been reported by anyone else, even though the user claims to know its existence since October 2019.
The purported data files have not been thoroughly scanned for any malware or viruses.
The account name and post imply that he is dying from a health condition that's why he is coming forward with the leak. If so, wouldn't they put their name and face im the post instead of sharing this info through an anonymous account?
The user has also a ETH address in his bio and the file needs to be signed with your wallet for access (at least that's how it is presented).
Last, and most importantly Telegram made a Twitter post to deny the exploit claims and warn users about the file most likely containing some malware.
One thing is certain, we'll all have to wait and see if this is a well elaborated scheme from an individual or group to hack the wallets of users or if the data leak is real.
Thanks for the info, bro, I know better
