Russia invades Ukraine sending chill to the civilized world
What people around the world have been fearing for months now happened. In the early morning hours Ukrainians woke up to Russian bombs attacking military and civilian installations including airports. Thereafter, Russian tanks, navy, and paratroopers invaded Ukraine from Belarus, Crimea, and the western Russian border.
The scenes we see playing on TV and social media are disheartening to say the least. Buildings are burning, and people are leaving their lives behind, packing whatever can fit in a suitcase, boarding the last trains and buses to Western Ukraine towards the Polish, Romanian, and Slovakian border.
Lives destroyed, families separated, and people fleeing only so that the Imperial ambitions of Russia, led by an unhinged authoritarian leader like Putin are fulfilled.
The US, UK, EU, Japan, Australia and other nations have started imposing crippling economic sanctions in order to make the war attempt of Putin as costly as possible. This includes halting Nordstream 2 pipeline, freezing assets of Kremlin backing Russian oligarchs in the EU, and freezing assets of Russian banks.
What we see today is a complete re-shaping of the international order as Ukraine, a sovereign nation, is attacked and denied its right to existence. Putin and his cronies have breached international law and the UN now more than ever looks a relic from the past unable to server any actual purpose.
This is the closest that Europe has been to war since World War II. As Russia progresses further into Ukraine, NATO has vowed to shore up its Eastern flank (Poland, the Baltics, Romania) with additional troops and military equipment. Judging from Putin's latest speeches he doesn't plan to stop in Ukraine. Instead he presented claims for bringing the Baltics and most of Eastern Europe back to Russia's sphere of influence. Further escalation could lead to a broader European war or even World War III.
In this moment we ought to be ready to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people who fight for their survival and their right to exist. They are the ones who are suffering the most. If you have some morality left, we need to understand that bombs and killings never bring peace. They only destroy lives and draw a deep generational resentment between people.
Glory to Ukraine.
Exactly right, bombs and killings will never bring peace. That they only destroy lives. Children and all the civilians lives are at stake. May the Lord Almighty will listen and answer the cry of the peoople
