Read.Cash can take over from both Hive and Publish0x

I have meant to write this for some time now, but always something else came up and kept pushing this article. Then, a couple of days ago Publish0x made an official announcement that they were making a lot of changes in their blogging platform, in order to make it more sustainable according to their claims. In short, they decided to remove Ethereum as their tipping token, leaving only AMPLE and iFarm. Furthermore, they decided to cut in half the amount that users could tip. Finally, they will crack down on article about airdrops and other low quality content, in order to improve the quality of posts in the platform and allow quality writers to get better rewards.

The third point makes sense, as lots of low quality articles with minimal effort or that where clear-cut copypasta from Cointelegraph and other crypto news sites were getting a share of tips, while some quality writers were buried in the plethora of articles published daily. The other two initiatives will definitely take a toll on P0x as lots of readers who were grinding and reading through articles in order to be able to get that share of their eligible tips / day will be dissuaded to remain active. This could be similar for writers, as many were eyeing the Ethereum tips and rewards, and settling for Ample or iFarm will not do the trick.

You know what they say though, a one's loss is another one's gain. Well, there are people who will support the idea of P0x adding BCH as their tipping token. That could work for them, especially now that their viewership and rewards have halved. Instead, I would be keen to support Read.Cash with user-allocated Bitcoin Cash tips, as this is the dedicated platform where the BCH community gathers.

How can the team behind Read.Cash achieve that?

First, by allowing users/readers to get some small BCH tips by browsing, reading, or voting on articles. This will attract dissatisfied users from P0x, both readers and writers. While the first group is cornerstone for quality content in a blogging platform, the latter group is the life and spreaders of the message.

Some will argue that this will blow-up the budget of Read.Cash, because the Reward Bot (and some members of the community!) are already quite generous. You can always work around that. If you allow users/readers to tip through a Bitcoin Cash pot/budget offered by Read.Cash then you can lower the amounts that the bot hands out or gradually phase them out.

Furthermore, you can set a maximum allocation of sats that a user can tip per day from the pot, and a percentage of how much goes to the author and how much to the reader. P0x has that, and Noise.Cash used to have that some months ago.

If the above formula is inefficient, then you can still have a tipping pot for users, but make it available only for specific types of articles. Setting some eligibility criteria of which kind of articles the users can tip. These criteria could pertain to the quality of the article, its originality, the topic it treats, and etc.

Last, if we manage to grow and make Read.Cash lively enough and outpace some of its competitors, then as SmartBCH and SLP will grow, we can consider adding some other future SLP tokens as tipping tokens for writers and readers.

The way I see it is that there is a lot of potential for Read.Cash and the Bitcoin Cash community, especially if it can keep some of its quality authors on board. Increasing the number of users and readers in the platform is what will make it stand out from the crowd. In the end of the day, not everyone is as talented, committed, or has enough free time to take up writing. But, we all appreciate some free sats from our engagement in the sphere!
