Hive is everything that Twitter can't never be
The past days Twitter has been the main topic of discussion. This came after Elon Musk's move to acquire 9% of the total Twitter shares, his refusal to join the Twitter board, and his offer to buy the majority of Twitter shares with a $ 54,20 per share.
The discussion has revolved about core concepts on social discourse. The debate being between democracy, freedom of speech, moderation, and billionaires owning social media giants. Musk has proclaimed himself a freedom of speech absolutist, whereas the current Twitter board have a modus operandi of moderating and limiting digital speech in cases where they believe what they post can have harmful effects to individuals or societal groups.
Furthermore, in the past year we have seen Twitter moving further into the sphere of Cryptocurrencies and the Blockchain by launching crypto tips for digital creators and NFT avatars. What Twitter considers as innovation, Hive has already done it. NFTs were integrated in the Hive Blockchain a lot before Twitter ever tried to do that. Tipping content creators, which Twitter considers as an innovation, had been a cornerstone in the development of the Hive Ecosystem. Furthermore, within Hive users and communities can create their own tokens which have value and can be used for rewards.
To add to that, while Twitter and other social media (Facebook /Meta) are looking into ways in order to get into Web3, Metaverse, and Blockchain Games, Hive is already further ahead on that list offering already features that traditional social media cannot offer. Especially in terms of Blockchain Gaming, Splinterlands has been a leader in the space for the past year providing both entertainment and profits for its users.
Last but not least, Twitter as other traditional social media is centralized and operates in a model where it can silence people and narratives that powerful elites and governments disagree with. Thus, they hamper freedom of speech in its digital form by banning users. This takes away the digital speech of users and their ability to communicate it in a world that is more than ever interconnected and digitalized. Hive is the complete opposite of that, it's decentralized nature provides that it can become a free speech bastion for everyone around the world.
I don't believe that even if Musk takes over Twitter and turns it private that the platform will be better. Instead it will be something that reflects the way Elon sees the world, same as Facebook became whatever Zuckerberg wanted it. The alternatives to that are already there in the form of Hive Blockchain and its plethora of communities making it easier to find where we belong and not be afraid to express and communicate.
