The principle of the technique

Learn the technique

The first thing to give up when learning the drowning protection technique is the desire to keep your head above water. The idea is to drop your head forward in the water and let your body hang vertically, not in the normal horizontal swimming position. Let your arms hang freely over your shoulders. It hangs like a rag in water.

Do not worry; most people will not sink. Your body will float in the water with only the back of your head on the surface. By standing there with your feet on the ground, you allow the water to support you and save your energy.

However, since the nose and mouth are submerged in this position, what can you do when you need some air after about fifteen seconds?

Raise your arms in a relaxed and calm manner, crossing them in front of your head. Also, just as easily, lift one leg up to your chest and extend it forward while extending the other leg back. Now raise your head while exhaling through your nose. To keep your head above the water long enough to inhale, bring your feet together with the scissors and, with a gentle motion, swing your crossed arms outward. You want the movement of your arms and legs to be enough for you to breathe well, but not enough to lift your shoulders out of the water.

As soon as you breathe in, dip your head in the water, face down on the ground, and put your arms by your side. Rest with your body completely relaxed. However, do not stay in the water until you feel that your lungs are about to burst out of air, but take a deep breath again before you feel an urgent need to do so.

By resting and breathing alternately as described, you may find that you can stay in the water for a long time without getting tired. The advantage is that you don't waste your strength on continuous body movements. Instead, most of the time you're resting.

Plus, with a slight adjustment to the kick and hand movement, you'll find that you can move a few inches in the water on each outing to breathe. This way you can cover long distances over time without getting tired. Of course, for this anti-drowning technique to be effective, you will need to take the time to practice it.

Knowing how to survive in deep water for a long time, he is unlikely to drown. But in most cases, if you take precautions, you don't need to find yourself in a situation where there is a risk of drowning.

So take precautions. Think about this disturbing fact: Drowning is the second most common cause of accidental death in the United States. It is certainly a good reason to know how to survive in deep water.
