Let’s imagine, for instance, a young man wandering in the wilderness of an abyss; he has lost his compass of life. Nothing is more surreal than a young man, erstwhile brimming with energy and vitality, shoving himself into oblivion and stagnancy; nothing is more gruesome than the thought of having been rendered incapable to love again. A person who has been absolved of the faculty of love is like that organ of the body which, even with sophisticated advancements, cannot be flooded with blood; it is there, just like other parts of the body, but cannot relish the bounties of life; its soul annihilates while the physical self remains intact. What else could qualify as the most dejected state of consciousness?
We, as humans, apart from being machines for procreation and action, are endowed with emotions: we can love, hate and mourn; we can be envious, devious or magnanimous. All these emotion (for the sake of clarity, let me call them emotions), are somewhere synonymous to each other, or aptly contradicting each other in a perennial struggle for supremacy. However, there is one emotion which has the most profound effect on a human heart: Love.
For centuries, philosophers have striven to uncut the intricate fabrics of this word for a general and befitting definition; they have failed miserably. To define something, to delve into the epistemology of any concept, one must be able to justly comprehend the historical leaning of that word/concept, and to understand its usage and implications. As far as the concept of love is concerned, it has, as far as I think (obviously, I cannot speak for the humanity on this concept), has a subjective perception: it varies with every person. For a mother, love resides in the first cry, first step, first achievement or, to put it generally, in the happiness of her child; for a wife, love wears the clothes of mutual affection, understanding, romance, care, security and protection; for a young maiden, love can be that intoxicant inebriating the soul which, in turn, dance madly in love; for a young man, it opens the vistas of emotions and passions; for a patriot, love consists of the desire to do something for his homeland; hence, as mentioned earlier, love cannot be confined to a narrow passage-way.
Now, we can assume that by hampering our way to love, we are treading on a hodgepodge path. Sometimes, or I must say frequently for those who have toyed with love but in vain, soaking yourself in the soil of love seems preposterous and futile. Human nature resists any attempt to counter the same bad feelings again; however, it cannot shy away from the joy and happiness usually sponsored by love. As the notion of love has a different meaning for everyone, yet it shares things in common: joy, passion, happiness, serenity and sacrifice. Therefore, it’s a humble appeal to all those souls who have created an outer layer of doubt and hate on their hearts to shatter it in the first instance and enjoy the bounties of love. By doing so, that young dejected man can come to life again; that young maiden can truly drink from the wine of life; that young man would find this world as an emblem of heaven, embodying all the essentials of an ideal life. Only by re-imbibing and re-inculcating love to our emotional system, we could save humanity from intolerance, hopelessness, despondence and dormancy.
