Color over matter, is the concept that is unconsciously dwelling in our system. An idea which has long been practiced yet often denied. Wherever you will be situated in this good earth 🌎. You will always see that everything that surrounds you has been provided in variety of colors, from the color of your predilection to the color of your disinclination. Walking down the aisle enjoying the view of the lining flowers 🌺 before you knew it, your eyes have already picked the most adorable one in accordance to your preferred color.
From this very simple thing to the clothes in our closet and even with the notebooks, pens and bags that we use everyday, we know we carefully chose them by color. For whatever is in favoured color is what we consider as beautiful. Hence, I could say that beauty is associated with color, to the point that some of the most important aspects of a particular thing is sacrificed due to color preference. Color adds value, gives meaning and draws emotion. Color is given power to influence us in any way or situation.
Being a Filipino, most of us are born with nut-brown skin yet almost everyone struggled to undergo any medical procedures or use whatever trending whitening products are available in the market in order to have a milky white skin everybody dreams. And what on earth are they doing these for? One thing is for sure. In order to have themselves considered as beautiful. Yes, sad to say Filipinos have ended up with a twisted belief that white is synonymous with beauty. Unfortunately, our society had set this standard which most people would try hard to meet.
When I was a growing kid in a small barrio, I have witnessed how some of my playmates were teased and taunted because of the dark color of their skin. In school, this even has become a reason for being bullied at. While the white skinned ones were admired by almost everyone, envied by few and even enjoyed the perks of having a fair skin that most of those with dark or brown skin tone could only wish for.
As what we all know, Filipinos nowadays prefer pale skin over our very own earthly colored skin. And we even forget the real sense of beauty. According to Melly Berry, "Beauty comes from the inside, beyond your fair skin." Thus, we are not supposed to discriminate a person through his complexion, for we have never known the beauty of man God has lovingly wrapped with that skin. As an adage goes, "beauty has no skin tone" therefore skin color must not be our parameter in measuring beauty. It must be measured by the kindness of one's heart 💜 and compassion for others especially to those who are in need. Real beauty ignites whatever is the shade of your skin, be it light or dark. If what's within your bosom is a heart so full of mercy, generosity, forgiveness and love. Then you deserve a crown 👑 of a real beauty queen. At the end of everything, what we can only recall is the beauty of one's personality but the beauty of one's body shall fade and be forgotten.
Closing thought 🤔
So, no matter what complexion we have, we must not forget that God 🙏 made our skin in wonderful variety of shades but He crafted our soul in the same color. Let's not look at a person through our worldly eyes, rather, let's look beyond physical dimension and dig deep to find the gem 💎 underneath. We are fair and equal in the eyes of God and He wants us to plant and propagate only goodness in our hearts 💕.
True beauty is within our soul.
