Dear reader, in this article I am going to comment on some foods that are widely used for food, but do not provide the necessary nurients to the human body and, on the contrary, are harmful to health, reducing the quality of life of those who consume them.

The content presented in this text is purely informative. if you want to improve your eating habits, consult a nutritionist for appropiate recommendations adapted to your specific needs.

I do not use the term "food"because most of the products I am going to mention are not food. Despite this, we happily consume them to the sound of all kinds of advertising paid for by their producers.

Refined flour

All the vitamins, minerals, proteins and fibers contained in the grains used for its production have been extracted. What you buy is starch; although vitamins are added (ironically, natural vitamins are extracted first and then artificial ones are added), they are not absorbed by the body in the same way as in a natural product.

In the process of metabolism, the body converts refined flours into sugar; therefore, they are very caloric, fatty (with the disadvantage that they are not nourishing due to the denaturation they have undergone) and, to top it off, they cause constipation, since they are also deprived of their natural fiber.

You can eat bread and pasta, but from wholemeal flour. Of course, flour is incompatible with protein, so sandwiches with ham, cheese, sausages, ... represent a huge nutritional mistake. Also, almost all cakes contain flour and eggs (protein). Avoid them if possible and make your own cakes without eggs and with whole wheat flour.

White sugar

This product is highly caloric and has no nutritional value. All the vitamin B complexes, calcium, iron and minerals in the sugar cane have been extracted through a refining process that uses chemicals such as phosphoric acid, calcium sulfite, sodium carbonate and others. In the end, what you buy with that beautiful white appearance is: WASTE. Waste that deprives the body of large amounts of vitamin B and calcium to assimilate; making it responsible for tooth decay, bone problems, avitaminosis and a whole series of side effects.

the road we are on if we do not realize it in time and improve, listening to the voice of doctors and nutritionists who say that we are completely degenerate if we compare ourselves with people of tha past who have not had cancer or arteriosclerosis, who still read without glasses, have their heads covered with hair and eat with their teeth. The threat is extinction. Gradual degeneration that ends in extinction. A good scenario for a species that boasts so much of its progress in terms of civilization. After so many scandals and alarms worldwide about nuclear weapons, wouldn`t it be tragically comical to be "sweetly" annihilated by their own stupidity in terms of production and consumption of poisons? I agree that refined sugar packets should carry the same warning printed on cigarette packets: "Caution, the use of this product has been determined to be harmful to health" and whoever wants to continue consuming it should do so; at their own risk.

The consumption of natural sweets is recommended, as they are very energetic and nutritious. Use cane molasses, you can also use pure honey instead of the adulterated molasses sold out there, and eat all kinds of sweet fruit with high natural sugar content without worrying.

Refined oils and fats

These are products that have undergone hydrogenation processes, which prevents the oil from becoming slightly rancid so that it can be sold without storage problems to the benefit of producers and retailers, eliminates taste and odor, clarifies and provides and almost transparent final product.

Hydrogenation destroys the essential fatty acids, the oil cannot be absorbed by the body´s cells and, after ingestion, ends up coating the inside of the blood vessels, causing heart disease. Vegetable margarines and shortenings are made from hydrogenated fats and contain chemical additives.

It is advisable to use unrefined oils, although they are difficult to obtain and a little more expensive than refined ones (logically they should be cheaper because they do not undergo so much processing, but this is not the case). Nevertheless, any effort that results in health benefits is worthwhile. Although health is not the only important thing, we must keep in mind that when it fails, everything else falls by the wayside, so spare no effort or money to preserve it.

Reflection

Once formed, habits are difficult to break. Although few people have managed to break them, it is not impossible. Change our bad eating habits and, as a reward, we will gain better health and quality of life.
