Electric cells

Electric cells are cells which produce direct current through chemical reactions. There are two types of electric cells and these are: Primary cells and Secondary cells.

Some examples of primary cells are galvanic cells, Daniel cells and Laclanche cells.

There are two defects of primary cells and they are local action and polarization.

Local action refers to the defect where the electrode of the primary cell is eaten and hence causes back flowing of emf.

Polarization is the defect of the primary cell where the electrode is covered by hydrogen bubbles thereby making the electrode an insulator.

The electric cells have zinc as the anode where oxidation occurs and copper as the cathode where reduction occurs.
