I have followed with keen interest the recent letters in our most prestigious paper about co-education in our secondary school which has generated much public debate. Kindly allow me space to outline some points against co-education. Most of the contributions of this communication controversial debate in your paper proposed co-education on the basis that it is a platform for good morals among students and increases academic performance. Others alleged that co-education breeds discipline and enhances academic competition.
I highly stand in for an immediate abolition of such system of schooling because it is very harmful to our educational system. It is so surprising that other writers do not at all consider the other side of the coin.
It must not take nature to separate boys from girls, and men from women for academic reasons. We must clearly notice that the school is the major house set aside to bring out the innate potential of every individual from sports academics to industry or craftsmanship. There are so many men or women, boys or girls who may not want to attract so much attention in the presence of the opposite sex and so such become much reserved when the time is due for him or her to unveil his or her given talent. In a situation where the school is a single sex such individuals may give out all that is in them in a way to stand out.
