We are all aware that pandemic is not over yet. Almost a year since it has spread around the world. Many have died and to this day it continues to spread and millions of people have suffered.
Here in the Philippines, the government pushes to provide financial assistance and groceries to each family. Last month there was another lockdown here in metro manila. Same as before, the government gave again their support to the people. The lockdown extended and the good news is that some generous people here helped us. It was called the “Community Pantry".
Each person who helps will have his or her own place or location for people in need of food assistance to go to. There is a certain time of the day for giving the donation and it is only limited time. I was one of those people who went and lined up to have groceries. It started 7:00 AM so we decided to go earlier than to line up so we can go home early.
We did not rush to go and we followed the curfew hours so we could be seen or ticketed. We were surprised we didn’t expect that someone had arrived before us. So we hurried to line up to tell their staff that we could line up.
As the sun rose we still remained in line. We also stood for almost two hours and sometimes sat down when we needed to. I didn't talk much. I prefer to listen to music to relax. Because if I talk I'll be thirsty. In our situation, it is difficult to drink a lot of water. It may be sudden and difficult to find a comfort room.
The donation has already started and their staff has arranged for us again. Social distancing, wearing a facemask and face shield. The protective gear was well worn, but of course the others were isolated and warmed by their protective gear. So their staff kept an eye on us, to see if anyone was not following the guidelines and protocols.
When we were close to the destination. The bags we were carrying were ready so that the process would be quick. And we finally ended up getting a grocery too. There are two kilos of rice, 6pcs eggs, fresh milk from cow dung, canned goods, instant noodles, vegetables, vitamins, and fruits. They are still feeding porridge. But here we don't say that porridge is essential ha, ha, ha.
It was worth the effort with the groceries we got. That even hot and irritating will disappear especially with hot porridge.
