Was 2021 The Year Crypto Came of Age?
Now the title of this little opinion piece is open for debate, maybe it could be argued that 2020 was the defining moment for Crypto or it could even be 2022.
The last one we will have to wait and see if it is possible to eclipse the mega stories of 2021.
Now I must admit 2020 was the year I had the spare time to fully devote to things crypto. Thanks to covid a lot of people took the opportunity to seek alternative sources of income.
And blogging is a great way to learn things, it requires a lot of DYOR to triple check facts. One has to be confident about what you are writing about.
It was also the year that we noticed a resurgence of interest in things crypto. Which inspired the post, published July 2020.

The tulips are flowering and
2021 saw me return to the Fly In Fly Out lifestyle and while I had copious amounts of spare time at work, it was not a conducive environment for research and blogging. One needs to be able concentrate fully. So 2021 saw the blogging slow to less than one a month, more microblogging and playing my favourite faucets. Despite spending less time in 2021, the dividends started to pay off from the time invested during 2020.
We did start Bragato18 Crypto Consultancy Services in February 2021. It was partly because of the renewed interest and that these enquiries were starting to waste a lot of my time. By charging handsomely for my time, knowledge, skills and experience, I found it quickly got rid of the time wasters and idiot factor.
Other than the initial setting up templates and documents, Bragato18 Crypto Consultancy Services was really low key. Mainly just helping rich people get started in crypto, give them the skills and confidence to venture into this exciting new world that is the CryptoVerse (or should we now say MetaVerse). Hope to devote more time to this project in 2022.
So against this back drop, the following are my pick for the Mega Stories of 2021, the ones who defined Crypto and put in the mainstream. There is no going back from here.
Crypto Goes Mainstream
It is February and a famous twitter person we shall not dare mention, announces to the world or at least the Twitterverse that his company added $1.5 billion of Bitcoin to their treasury or balance sheet.
Now this person went from Hero to Zero during 2021. Another post was inspired but while poking funn at this individual it was more a dig at his followers and in particular his haters.
The Person (We Shall Not Mention By Name) Is Really Just A Crypto Illiterate ???
Why would millions of people follow a crypto illiterate??? 56.8 million at the moment in time.
The Non-Fungible Token (or commonly known as NFT's) gold rush started. A relatively anonymous digital artist by the name of Beeple sells a NFT called "EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS" . The artwork was created over 5,000 days and was sold by Christie's Auction House for a record breaking 4327.453 ETH. It was the fact that 4327.453 ETH was worth $69 million that got peoples attention.
This spawned my NFT post. From which I discovered a cool Australian artist who was embracing NFT's, with the typical ozzie disdain for things, by taking the piss out of themselves.
Satoshinator And The Lushsux Interview
May saw China formally ban Bitcoin mining and we saw the great Hashrate Migration. So much was written about these two subjects, it did not inspire any posts. I think I was just happy that the China Banning FUD had run its course.
SHIB started the year at a price of $0.000000000073 before witnessing a frankly unbelievable (even by crypto standards) 50,000,000% gain – at one point in October becoming more valuable than DOGE itself.
To put this in context, if you’d put $10 into SHIB on January 1, you could have walked away with more than $4 million.
Now if you’ll excuse me I need to go and scream into my pillow for a few minutes. It took me some time to succumb but as of today we are the proud HODLers of 606.16623824 SHIB. And spawned a celebratory post.
Shiba Inu Has Been Added To Free Cryptos
Back in July 2013, two fresh-faced upstarts by the names of Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss were summarily laughed out of the building when they applied to have a Bitcoin ETF listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
October saws SEC approve a Bitcoin ETF. It could not actually trade actual Bitcoin only futures.
This was my personal favourite. Bitcoin became legal tender in El Salvador.
I started the "A Brief Bitcoin History" channel on noise.cash. It was a place to record some of the history and also the history in the making.
I learned about

On a more personal and sadder note, the end of 2021 saw us sell the dip.
The beach shack we have been renting for a number of years, unexpectedly came on the market. The owners offered it to us and what can one do.
We have been dealt with the double whammy of a buoyant local property market and a major crypto correction. Ouch that hurt real hard.
While it goes against everything I HODL dear, we are securing our piece of paradise and no longer have to pay rent. Covid once again played it's part in this crypto story. The Government had mandated that all FiFo workers get double jabbed, so I gave up work. Which meant I now had the time needed to turn some of the ill gotten gains into fait. Unfortunately the owners would not accept crypto as payment, or more importantly their mortgage HODLer wouldn't. I did ask.
I have promised @tvlachak a post about how to convert crypto to fait using Peer2Peer. There is no point in also taking a 3rd hit from the taxman, the greediest bugger of them all.
