Why seek validation?

Validation seeking from others means seeking their approval for your choices, feelings, thoughts, beliefs, values, and actions. The desire to seek validation stems from the basic human need to be liked and accepted by others.

There are people who can not confidently make decisions on their own without the opinion of others because they are worried about what the next person will say or do

we have a fundamental need to belong to our peers and herd and be accepted by them.

Our fore father's roamed around in groups, telling us that wanting to belong and be accepted did not just start in this century.

Generally, humans seek validation from other humans. Specifically, they seek validation from members of their own group( the group they belong to)

We all have our peers and  groups comprising people we consider our own. We seek to lift ourselves in the eyes of group members. This elevates our self-esteem and makes us feel good about ourselves. If we’re rejected by our peers,  anxiety and depression sets in if we are not very cautious.

Your main group consists of people who share your beliefs, values, and your main identity.

We seek validation and acceptance from our peers and associates , but not equally from everyone.

These dynamics operate everywhere all the time, without exception.

For instance, if you’re a new employee, you’re likely to seek validation from your boss. If you’re a scholar, you crave the validation of an academician. If you’re a fresh-faced musician, you seek the approval of a music legends.

According to research it is proven that these people-pleasers had a bad childhood.

Others are just lazy and don’t care to think about these things. They accept whatever identity society hands them on a platter.

On the other end, we have people who don’t care about the validation of others. They’re highly self-validating. They have a clear idea of who they are, their values.

They don’t go around seeking validation from just about everyone. They only seek their own validation and the validation of few others

  • In summary it could be said that seeking validation in all you do as human is not a good practice, you should be able to stand firm to your decision despite what others are saying. Remember the popular saying that: What you picture in your mind, your mind will go to work to accomplish. So ones you have a picture of a goal in your mind don't let anyone talk you out of it.
