My Encounter WIth The Voodoo Priest (Pt2)

Story continues...

In my last post, I talked primarily about the misfortunes of my family as it started from the eldest of us. He is the head of the family and the head is slowing and gradually dying away and this in my opinion is holds a dark significance. At the time, the misfortunes of the eldest was more tangible because he was already a self made man before things went south, but then, slowly but steadily, we took account of this bad fortune on the rest of the family.

Everything just became difficult for everybody all of a sudden, business deals that would originally go through without fuss was beginning to look tedious and hard to get across the line. The second of the boys in the house who had traveled to another country to go sign for a certain football club wasnt spared from this misfortune, even when he is thousands of miles away, in another country all together. After having impressed the coaching staff during trials and was about to be signed to a contract, he came down with a freak injury, without even kicking a ball.

The issues with the second son was happening concurrently with that of the first son, but because he was in a far away country, we couldnt see first hand what was happening to him, but it was hell for him as well. When his injury wasnt getting any better, the club ultimately lost interest in him and he had to move on. This weird cycle continued until he became frustrated, considering he should have already peaked as a footballer, given his age. Since football refused to work out and he had to look for a means to survive in this new country, he went into drug peddling.

Peddling drugs might have seemed like a means to get rich and live the street life but it was a last ditch option for him because my brother wasnt and isnt cut out for that life. He was very reserved, soft spoken and shy but in a bid to survive, he had to resort to life on the street. Football didnt workout for him, drug dealing didnt either, I guess misfortune doesnt care if you are striving for good or bad, as long as it has you on lock, nothing happens the way you would want them.

Couple of months after he had been in this business, he was busted by the cops in a massive raid in his area. I guess he hadnt much quantity on him or whatever because he was finally let go after a few weeks in jail. I dont know what the hell he even does now but he is still in this country, with expired travel documents and no means to renew them, thus stuck in a foreign country for a decade now. We talk frequently on the phone but he has been there too long, way too long...

This is a brief account of how fate has also been dealing with the second son, and like this, there is a story of bad luck and misfortune for every single one of us, none of us has caught a lucky break, no matter what we venture into, since 2008. We have sold our cars, had our cars stolen and never found, evicted from our houses, lost potential life changing opportunities, gotten deported...the only ill fate that has never befallen us is the death of any one of us or any close family relative. We have been hale and hearty while in severe financial and opportunity constraints.

I am from a part of the world where people are known to be highly religious and superstitious and it is expected of us to seek answers everywhere and anywhere...from religious houses to fortune tellers to voodoo priests, everywhere and they all seem to chorus one thing, that our misfortune comes from one singular place - our village (hahaha, familiar right? Now you know where I am from) If you dont get the joke, please keep reading, dont worry about it. We were told that the source of our pains and anguish comes from the place we call home. This is while being ripped off by fakes and con artist claiming they were real spiritualists or men of god.

Do you believe in dark magic? Voodoo? I believe the universe is full of mysteries and holds some revelations that we can’t possibly view and understand within our human consciousness.

We are one of the most hardworking families you would ever meet, down to earth, industrious and innovative, but none of the things we do for money seems to work, we knew comfort ones, but comfort right now is an illusion. How possible is it to have two police officers, a nurse and a footballer plus business people in a big family of 8 and nobody seem to ever catch a break? Can anybody or any people be so unlucky without there being anything orchestrating these misfortune?

I will stop here for now, gather my thoughts and continue later...
