The Adam Project Netflix's time travel show

Beautiful cinematography, comedy,so emotional, and a fast paced action adventure, makes this a joy to watch.

The Adam Project is a time travel adventure movie, written by Jonathan Tropper, T.S. Nowlin, Jennifer Flackett, and Mark Levin, and is directed by Shaw Lewy, who is also the executive producer for Netflix's popular TV series “Stranger Things”.

This movie tells about the story of Adam (played by Ryan Reynolds) who travel from the future back to when he was a kid and he's been chased by his Boss Maya (played by Catherine Keener).

What is The Adam Project about?

In the year 2050, a pilot called Adam steal a time travel jet that belongs to his Boss Maya, to travel back in time and save his wife who died on a mission in year 2018. Adam is been chased by Maya, who has been trying to stop him and warning him not to time travel else's, she'll track him down and shoot him. But Adam know this, as he had already blocked her trackers from tracking him and then finally time travel and disappear through a wormhole portal.

In 2022, we see young Adam Reed (played by Walker Scobell) at 12 year old, he's been bullied by some colleague at school because just like the Adult Adam, he won't stop running his mouth. Adam's mom later come to school to pick him from the principal's office. Adam is going through a tough time, because his father just died not quite long.

Adam is playing video game one night, when her mom is out on a date. Adam’s dog Hawking noticed something in the woods and run after it, young Adam follow the Dog into the woods. When they come back, he found a guy in his father garage. Young Adam later discovered his old self have come from the future for a mission in 2018 not 2022, and Young Adam wants to help him.

Adam is having trouble with his Jet, it won't start because he's bleeding so he needs young Adam to help him, so that he can go back to 2018 and save his wife. But first Adam have to help young self by standing up to his bullies and having an emotional conversation with his mom who thinks he’s a stranger.

During the year 2018, Adam's Dad invented the time travel, and refuse to destroy it. Maya is a family friend who work with his dad, but old Adam knows Maya as a bad person, because He thinks she killed his wife Laura in the future. That is why he want to change the future for that not to happen. In other words he come from the future to save his wife from Maya Sorian.

In the process of saving his wife, they travel to 2018 to destroy a hard drive in Maya's company. On his way he fights Maya's robotic soldiers with lightsaber but he's not doing great, in surprise his wife Laura show up to rescue him, and they both find somewhere save to hide.

It was then discovered that future Maya have also time-traveled back to 2018 from 2050 before, in order to help young Maya to complete the project started by Adam's Father, and to help her gain power over time in the future.

Maya change things in the past, and this make things disarray in the future. Adam discovered that future Maya had been living in the past for like four years alone.

Laura wants Adams to travel back to when their father start the time travel stuff and stop him from launching the Project but if that happens Laura and Adam will not have the chance to be together in the future.

Both Adams agree and travel back to 2018. after a rough Star Wars chase scene, they finally meets their father Louis. Louis at first did not agree with what they are trying to do, by trying to change the past. They tell him how time travel has ruined the future that he has to stop what he's doing. But Louise didn't listen to them.

Louise later agreed to destroy the invention and stop time travel. Old Maya visit Young Maya to tell him about what they want to do to the research work by blowing it up and destroy her legacy in the future.

The Adam Project Ending Explained

The Young and old Mayas Battle against the two Adams alongside their father Louis, who later changed him my to destroy his invention. They sends the particle accelerator into an electromagnetic overload to destroy the time travel. They killed young Maya in this battle, which makes it to erase her completely, the older Maya is gone too with all her henchmen during an explosion, but both the young and Adams escape the explosion, and Louis save too.

After destroying the Time travel Adam's try to warn Louis about his upcoming untimely death, but he tell them not to worry he as already suspecting his fate and he does not want to alter it. Three of them both have a heartwarming ball game before both Old Adam and Young Adam disappear and go back to their fixed time.

Despite not being together again, their little time together have had impact in their normal lives, as we later see young Adam let go of his resentment towards his mom when he's back in 2022, we also see the old Adam at university, when he meets his wife at the military academy.

The thing is, It's not clear, what make them comes together. And maybe the timeline corrected by itself or maybe they always have to marry regardless.

What I think is that Adam and Laura are destined to meet again, no matter what happens.
