About Vadim

For starters, he's got an intimidating accent. However, I seem to think that about everybody with a Russian accent. Although Russian, he was born in Kazakhstan while it was still part of the Soviet Union. When he was three, it dissolved and he moved to Russia with his parents. He moved to Hong Kong 6 years ago because he wanted to live in a fast-paced business-friendly environment in a warmer climate. He now runs Holdex.

Crypto and the Russian Connection

Upon first hearing about BTC, Vadim said "Bitcoin was like an alien language."
Everyone either thought it was either crazy, revolutionary, or a scam when they first heard about it. A former guest described Bitcoin as "the MatrixCoin!"

He also explained why he thought Russians were so well represented in the blockchain space. He said "People who experience Socialism grasp the idea of a blockchain much faster." Enough said.

He mentioned that setting up a business is fairly simple in Hong Kong but found it difficult to get a Hong Kong bank account. He thinks this might be because he has a Russian passport.

â‚¿locKade Learns Things

One thing I love about doing this show is I'm always learning interesting new things from guests. Sometimes they're crypto-related, sometimes they're not. Here are two I learned during this lunar mission:

E-Resident of Estonia?

One thing Vadim told us was that you can set up an E-Residency in Estonia. This doesn't give you citizenship or the ability to live in Estonia. However, you'd be able to set up a business there, use their banking services, and get all the digital services an Estonian National would have. It's really cool that you can have a paperless EU-based business through this option. If you're interested, check it out.

A (DeFi) Zero-Loss Lottery?!

Vadim and I are both big fans of DeFi. One thing I hadn't heard about before was the concept of a DeFi Zero Loss Lottery. If you're familiar with MakerDAO, DAI, smart contracts, and the way you can earn interest by staking, this'll be easy for you. If not, check out Lunar Missions 33, 34, and 35.

Basically, you stake your DAI in an interest-earning smart contract. When it ends, the winner gets all the interest in the pool. Everyone else just gets there money aka DAI back. Very cool. If you want to gamble, while not gambling, check out PoolTogether.
