This article is also inspired by a discussion with my peers. As a Christian, I'll admit that the Book of Revelations is one of the most confusing, misinterpreted books in the Bible.

It describes what will happen happen on the last day, the days preceding it and the days or years or ETERNITY after it. The Book of Revelations is just a graphic description of Armageddon, the apocalypse and the end of this world as we know it.

It's therefore one of the most interesting books to talk about, and the words written in it are the subject of many disputes by Bible scholars and Christians alike.

This is but a personal opinion of Revelations Chapter 19:2 and what it means to me.

Review verse Revelation 19.2 (Version: NIV). Explain what it really means in your view.

2 for true and just are his judgments. He has condemned the great prostitute who corrupted the earth by her adulteries. He has avenged on her the blood of his servants."

The Book of Revelation is the final book of the New Testament and of the Bible. It is full of prophecies about the end of the world, also called Armageddon. Revelation was written by John the Beloved, the only one of Jesus disciples to escape execution. He was thrown into a pot of boiling oil, but he survived and was sent on exile to a remote island, where through visions from Jesus Christ, he wrote the book. It was written to comfort faithful Christians who are facing persecution in the last days, assuring them that Christ will ultimately defeat all forces of evil. The book was written to serve as an assurance that God's Justice and Mercy would encompass them, even in the trying times.

Chapter 18, the preceding chapter, has a lot to do with the fall of Babylon; in fact, that is the central theme of the chapter. Babylon here is synonymous with the world order, the Governments of the world and powerful entities which seem to have the world in their palm and determine the activities that would taken place. It indicates that all kings, whether in royalty or as wealthy individuals, who benefit from the evil of the world order will suffer the consequences. They will mourn her demise: Merchants will mourn because there will be no one to purchase her goods: her jewelry, spices, perfume, animals, slaves and whatever commodities it had to offer.

Babylon is constantly substituted by "her" because Babylon referred to herself as a queen who was above sorrow and suffering. But it says, at the end of the chapter, that God will judge her for her evil actions. At the end of the chapter, the vices which Babylon perpetrated were described. She performed activities of witchcraft, using it to fool the nations and control them. In addition, her streets are said to be filled with the blood of God's people, his prophets and other people. Babylon commits acts of murder and persecutes the people of God, which invoked the wrath and Justice of God.

The chapter and verse in focus, chapter 19 verse 2, refers to the joy of the people; a lot of voices are heard from heaven, shouting and praising God for his judgment over Babylon. Babylon is described as a filthy prostitute whom ruined the earth with her shameful deeds. This goes to teach all Christians that all acts of unrighteousness shall not go unpunished. On the last day, the Lord God will weigh all our actions on earth, and all evil doers shall be judged, no matter how big they are. Christians are encouraged to persevere and endure even in these trying times, as the judgement of God is just around the corner, and we must endure to preserve our righteousness.

We are also encouraged to refuse to be a part of an evil movement, or stand in a position to benefit from their activities, whether passively or actively. As the merchants and kings suffered and mourned, so shall any who stain their garments by partaking in the evil of the world order.
