Ukraine-Russia War: Everything That Happened on the 19th Day
On the 19th day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, some civilians were able to leave the city of Mariupol on a scheduled route for the first time.
Extreme humanitarian crises are raging in this important southeastern port city of Ukraine due to the continuous shelling for almost two weeks, the depletion of food, water and medicine, and the loss of communication from the outside world.
Earlier, there were several agreements to allow civilians to leave the city, but each time the agreement was broken.
The Mariupol City Council said on Monday that 160 private vehicles had left the city and that Japarozhia, a relatively safe city in the northwest of the country, was on its way.
Footage from the drone shows the ruins of the town of Mariupol, where it is clear that apartment blocks have been bombed and smoke is rising from the rubble.
Heartbreaking update
Russia bombed a maternity hospital in Mariupol last week. Pictures of two pregnant mothers fleeing the rubble have spread around the world.
One of them died along with her unborn child on Monday. After giving birth to the dead child, the doctors tried their best to save the woman but were not successful.
