Are You Happy
People sometimes need to suffer and endure the struggle in order to have a good quality of life. No one wants to be poor. All of us want to be rich or at least live a stress-free life. They say money can't buy happiness but money can give things that can make us happy.
Happiness cannot be defined by owning an iPhone, a Ferrari or having a condo unit. The real happiness is when you no longer worry about anything despite the status of your life.
Are you happy right now?
If you answer that question as quickly as yes, maybe you should ask yourself again. Am I really happy right now?
Before we answer that question to ourselves let us first look at our uncertainties. The things that make us worry all the time. Frankly speaking bills make us worry all the time. Correct me if I am wrong but we always worry about our monthly electric and water bills, house rent, daily expenses, gossipers and dog poop of your neighbor at your doorstep every morning. Funny how it seems but it’s true.
These days’ prices of goods and commodities keep rising and if you are having a minimum monthly income you will worry a lot about budgeting. I remember a pick up line about continuing high prices of goods. Pardon me but it is way better to say in our language. “Lahat nag mamahalan na, tayo na lang ang hindi.” The tagalog word “mahal” has two meanings depending on how to use it in a sentence. Mahal means beloved or costly. When you say “nagmamahalan” it is either two people are in love with each other or higher pricing of merchandise.
Anyway I was just trying to insert some ice breaker as my topic sounds too serious. Going back to our common uncertainties, these are the things that make us unhappy and it’s not temporary. As long as we do not do something else to stop it we will always worry. Unless you are promoted by your boss or got a salary increase of at least 50% then your uncertainties will be lessened. But for sure another level of uncertainty will come. Perhaps you will buy a car or purchase a property next time. So the possibility of worrying is endless.
What about successful people do they have uncertainties too? Yes of course but they have their own way of handling it so that it will not last.
Sometimes the reason why worrying won’t leave us is because of attachments. We are being burdened with attachment and not being able to let go of it. Buying things that we don’t need, vices and relationships keeps us attached to our uncertainties. If we can stop ourselves or at least lessen those attachments we can somehow achieve the real happiness we want in life.
Nevertheless happiness can be interpreted as having a wife and kids living peacefully despites the standard of living in a particular place.
I wanted to achieve this stress free life. Who doesn’t want that? To leave uncertainties behind or at least manage to have a life less stressful.
To do well and be righteous, but not to the extent that we look like saints, I guess that makes us happy and success will follow thereafter.
