The Art of Lying

"A wise man does not defend himself with lies. Liars are not believed forsooth, even when liars tell the truth..."

Whenever people are asked if lying is excusable, they firmly say with strong conviction the word No. But after having said the answer, their walks usually divert with their talk.

John had lied to his younger brother Vince, that he did not hide his car toy. When the latter found his plaything under his brother's pillow, he flared up in great fury and disgust. Since then, the little brother always distrusted his big brother. So when the time came that John called Vince that he is deeply wounded after a brawl, Vince doubted his remark, not knowing that his doubts corresponds to his brother's downpour of blood. A childhood game that involved the art of lying unexpectedly decoyed a very precious life.

At the age of three, my mother started preaching me thet deceiving other people is bad. She said that God hates liars and that society seeks for true people. Armed only by innocence, I easily believed her. But when I stepped out from home, I realized that my mother was a liar too. Society never seeks for true people; in fact, it is the haven of certified deceivers such as politicians, teachers and even lawyers.

Too much exposure to one's community changes the view of a person, just like how mine have been changed. When my curiosity about many perplexing stuffs had activated, I relied much for the answers upon books, thinking that published stuffs never tell a lie. Values Education books states that elders should be the epitome of good deeds toward the youngster. But why do old people nowadays boldly expose their misdeeds such as lying, cheating, and inflicting pain for others? I therefore conclude that even books are liars too because they impart knowledge opposite to the actual practice of man. Sound absurd? Then who deserves the blame? If it weren't the books, then it will be YOU!

Personally, I love lying. Aside from pinning articles, speaking and drawing, it follows as my favorite art. Every time I fool my sisters and my mother, I find great happiness in seeing their confused faces. And every time that my mischievous tricks are revealed, my delight reaches the summit. I learned this craft of lying from my highly respected idols who deserve too much emulation.

Why on earth do I love deceit? Because I have also been fooled by other people, who never met my idealism. And I am just pursuing the dirt that had been started by the elders who, without knowledge, had failed the high regards of my generation. They have written homilies that should be abided; behaviors that should be manifested; and truths that should be embraced. But the big question is: Did they ever follow their teaching? Did they ever walk their talk? I doubt it.

I am overly pessimistic now. I have become the advocate of bad beliefs. Like a pristine glass that keeps the fingerprints of its older, lies of the elders were also left instilled in me. But how I metamorphosed from an innocent three-year old kid to cynical 20-year old guy, can serve as a warning to my elders. Children out there might soon follow my footstep.

How I wish that I were at age of three, forever young and innocent amidst the lies that surrounds me.
